Operation Market Time (1965)

Operation Market Time is an extraordinarily forgotten event that had taken place throughout the entirety of the Vietnam War. North Vietnam was transiting supplies on vessels which would appear to the naked eye as any old civilian fishing vessel, no threat to be found. However, lurking under the decks could be barrels of Kalashnikovs or better yet, high explosives and booby traps. The U.S Coast Guard took the brunt force of the operation for the Navy, and earned the title "The Little Navy" of South Vietnam. By using small patrol motor gunboats, South Vietnam and the U.S Coast Guard could intercept these fake fishermen easily and talk face to face with the people of Vietnam. Ultimately it wouldn't all be sunshine and rainbows like the rest of the Vietnam War, and many lost their lives during the interrogations of Sampan vessels and Trawlers, as the Viet Cong would consistently rig their vessels to be traps, or would die fighting without a surrender. I highly encourage anyone to do further research about Market Time before playing this mission, as I can promise it will bring more personal enjoyment to realize the historical aspect at hand. Although this mission is not a 1:1 copy of an actual event which took place in the Coast Guard, it is supposed to represent the average day for the Coast Guard and U.S Navy during Market Time in 1965 at the beginning of the war, with vessels that all served in the operation, such as USS McCaffery.
