Having Trouble Winning? Here are some tips

Video of playthrough with no ship losses: https://youtu.be/VF_g6xZTlc8

Dealing with subs: Use the helicopter on the frigates and/or the anti sub planes at Midway airfield to take it out. Launch sonobuoys first then a couple of torpedoes and it won't give you any trouble.

Dealing with long range missiles: Launch a jamming plane from Midway first. Use the jamming plane to limit the effectiveness of missiles against the destroyer task force - but know that they likely will be sacrificed to save the carrier and air field. Turning the destroyer force on weapons free will help take out some missiles and aircraft faster. If missiles get towards the carrier group, have a jamming plane hover above the fleet with it's jamming turned towards the enemy missiles, then the anti-ship missiles will not be able to find the fleet and crash, miss, or get destroyed.

Dealing with aircraft: Launch your jamming plane from Midway airfield first, and then have it hover around 20,000 feet while you launch all other F-4s from Midway towards the enemy. Use a mix of manual targeting and weapons free to clean up the aircraft. While they are jammed, they will have limited effectiveness. Make sure to also launch F-4s and Harriers from your carriers as soon as possible, and set them to Max speed to get there to help quickly.

Finding the enemy: Turn on your E-2 scout plane and the Midway radar station. Set the air defense on Midway and your destroyer fleet to weapons free. If needed, send up a scout plane from Midway after you scramble all your Air-to-Air planes and have it hover around 30,000 feet with sensors on and send it towards the carrier group.

Taking out the ships: After you have cleared a lane of attack for your anti-ship planes, namely your B-52s and your Anti Ship planes of choice on your carriers, use a jamming plane or two from your carriers or Midway to jam the enemy ships while launching 2 missiles from each plane at the smaller enemy ships, and likely 2-3 missiles from each plane at each carrier. When jammed, very few Harpoons get intercepted.

Lore
Soviet forces have launched a daring assault deep into the Pacific, bypassing Alaskan defenses to strike at Midway Island. Their fleet, spearheaded by the Orel-class supercarrier Krasnaya Zvezda, the Kiev-class carrier Varyag, and the Moskva-class carrier Leninskaya Volya, seeks to cripple NATO air defenses and establish dominance in the central Pacific. Supported by a formidable escort of a mix of destroyers, a submarine, and frigates, their goal is to capture Midway, clear the skies over Hawaii, and open the path for strikes on the U.S. mainland.

NATO’s response hinges on your leadership. Operating from the small but vital airbase on Midway and the carrier strike group comprising the USS Forrestal and USS Tarawa, your task is to counter the Soviet advance. With limited resources, you must strike decisively to sink all three enemy carriers while keeping Midway Airbase operational and your own carriers afloat. The battle ahead will be intense, but the stakes demand victory. You have a few destroyers and frigates as a screening force for your carriers, as well as some aircraft that have been flown from Hawaii to assist.

I'll put out a video on YouTube shortly showing a fun way to play through it.

@leeji check out my help section for tips on how to win!

In total between all the carriers and the airbase and what's in the air, you have about 40-50 air to air planes which if launched correctly should smash all enemy planes. I find most times I ran the mission I had at least 20 friendly air to air planes left over.

Great concept, horrible execution. Absolutely no way to fend off that many planes with a handful of F-4's and Harrier's especially given the state of the AI in regards to units being set to weapons free. Then there's the subs that spawn in within firing range of both fleets so you're trying to fend off a swarm of planes, evading torpedo's, hunting subs and dealing with the missile threat. My hates off to anyone who actually beats this.
