Kaliningrad Encounter

Description
June 1985. Your US Surface Action Group is on routine patrol in the Baltic during peacetime when the Warsaw Pact starts their attack on NATO. Your mission is to reconnoitre the defenses at Kaliningrad with a surface ship and then withdraw to the west.

There is a possibility that you will receive support from a cruiser squadron, and an attack submarine, if they are in the vicinity and available. If the aircraft can be spared, the Air Force may allocate an E-3 AWACS to provide tactical information.

The Warsaw Pact have a patrol in the Baltic, which also may be joined by supporting naval or air elements. Be aware that the Warsaw Pact has active coastal defenses so approach any land mass with caution. In addition, there is civilian sea and air traffic.

Because only the core US and Russian patrols are guaranteed to spawn, this mission is going to be different with each playthrough

The difficulty of this scenario is somewhat variable due to the random chances of supporting elements spawning for each side. Early testing had a success rate of about 1 in 3. The mission is definitely achievable, but may require a few attempts and a few different approaches.

Thanks for the kind words, @Ares28, much appreciated! I'm glad you enjoyed the scenario. I updated it again to improve the starting formations so the ships are not having collision AI making them go crazy at the start.

I left the Galveston in. Think of it as a reflection on how serious the situation is that it was called out of mothballs. ;)

Thank you for your update. Very nice scenario, managed to complete it. I was surprised to see Polish OSA missile boats rughing to the attack. Looking forward for more :)

Just one remark - Galveston class cruisers were all decomissioned in the 70s so there is little sense in seeing one in the 80s. I'd just remove this one ship from the group if you want to keep the scenario more realistic. But you may also decide to keep it as 'what if' alt-history :)

Thanks for the feedback, @ares28! I'll make some adjustments based on your suggestions. :)

The scenario is a bit unfair at start, with players fleet being spotted immiedietly and fired upon by Soviet long range missiles. This may be caused by multiple factors:
1. Starting too close to the Hel Penisula SA battery
2. Starting too close to the Alfa class SSN
3. Starting with formation going full speed making enough noise to be heard in Sweden.

I'd recommend setting the blue fleet further from both 1 & 2 and making their initial speed 1/3 to give the player the opportunity to maintain stealth, as lowering it in the first seconds of the scenario is not enough to avoid being detected in few seconds.
