Operation Arctic Lifeline - Reykjavik under siege

Description
Mission Briefing
Subject: Operation Arctic Lifeline
Date: June 4th 1988
Time: 0800 Zulu

Situation:
Reykjavik is under heavy Soviet siege, with critical shortages of supplies threatening the city's survival. A U.S. aircraft carrier strike group and amphibious landing group have been dispatched to break the blockade and deliver essential supplies to the city. An American submarine is already positioned in Reykjavik Bay, providing valuable intelligence and covert support.

However, intelligence indicates that a Soviet aircraft carrier strike group is en route to reinforce the blockade. If this reinforcement arrives, the Soviet position will become nearly impenetrable. Civilian vessels are active in the area, adding complexity to the operation.

Mission:

Your task force must:

Break through the Soviet blockade around Reykjavik.
Escort the amphibious landing group to deliver supplies safely.
Neutralize any Soviet reinforcements before they can reinforce the blockade.

Mission Objectives:

Primary Objective: Secure a safe passage for the landing group to Reykjavik and ensure the delivery of supplies.
Secondary Objective: Neutralize Soviet naval forces in the area while minimizing collateral damage to civilian vessels.
Tertiary Objective: Prevent the Soviet aircraft carrier strike group from reaching the blockade.

Assets:

Aircraft Carrier Strike Group Dwight D. Eisenhower and support vessels.
Amphibious Landing Group with supply and support vessels.
Submarine USS Baltimore in Reykjavik Bay for intelligence and strike support.
Allied air support from Iceland, if needed.

Rules of Engagement:

Engage only identified hostile Soviet forces.
Avoid civilian casualties and minimize disruption to non-military shipping.
Prevent the Soviet carrier group from establishing dominance in the region.

Timeline:

The operation must be completed before the Soviet reinforcements arrive, estimated at 1:46 Zulu.
Commander's Intent:
Break the Soviet blockade around Reykjavik and deliver critical supplies to the city. Success depends on swift, coordinated action to secure safe passage for the landing group and deny Soviet reinforcements the ability to solidify their control. Exercise caution around civilian vessels, but act decisively to achieve the mission.
