Description
Spring, 1984 - U.S. Landings at Dutch Harbor, Alaska

Several months ago small contingents of Soviet forces have attacked US bases and towns along the Aleutian Island chain. A larger force proceeded to land at Dutch Harbor Alaska under grueling winter conditions.

Now, mainly due to political pressure, the US Navy has hastily assembled a force of ships ready to retake the island and take advantage of a break in the weather.

Soviet forces on the island have occupied many civilian buildings in Dutch Harbor, but due to supply issues are running low on food and suffering from exposure to the elements. The Soviet Navy is believed to have been forced to used submarines to resupply their forces during the winter. Still, Red Army troops, supported by some Spetznaz commandos and die-hard political officers, will put up a fight even in these tough conditions.

It is possible the Red Army has reconsidered their position in Dutch Harbor, and could be in the process of withdrawing their forces. US recon flights have picked up electronic emissions from unknown Soviet warships operating Northwest of Dutch Harbor but heavy clouds and icing on the aircraft electronics prevented any form of ID.

Our two landing ships must reach Dutch Harbor and Marines aboard USS Saipan are standing by to be dropped off in the town once the airspace is safe. A second task force, centered around USS Missouri, will provide fire support and screen the landing operation. Saipan's Harriers provide the only air cover to this operation, but Soviet fighters don't have the range to reach Dutch Harbor, and the Soviet Air Force has not been able to base any aircraft at the town's small landing strip. Snow storms over Kamchatka have likely grounded any long range Soviet bombers for the immediate future.

Objective: Have the two landing ships reach Dutch Harbor and unload Marines from Saipan's helicopters if possible.
(note: helicopters can't actually land troops, so just set them to an altitude of 20ft and role-play you've dropped them off)

This is a vanilla Sea Power mission

Are there any mods in the scenario or can I play it with my vanilla sea power?

AI aircraft are frankly dumb as a bag of rocks right now, so once the game gets better, I'll update the mission. Because I'll eventually redo all my missions when the game is in a more complete state, don't expect any updates to any of them unless a new patch completely breaks everything. It's been easily over a month since I've played any mission in this game and I don't have the desire to mess with the scenario editor and the lacking AI. Call me when it's ready to full release.

Not overly familiar with the scenario editor, but had a suggestion. Is there a way to add an objective to the island, an area on the south side for instance, that fires when a CH-47 enters the designated area? Could this then trigger one of the observation posts to change sides? You could flavour it then as inserting Marine recon onto the island and they are taking over a position to provide eyes to the fleet.

Really fun scenario, but a bit too easy. How about adding some soviet aircraft (jak-38's?). I would also love to play the mission from a soviet perspective.

Thanks for the two jets with radar capabilities. I don't remember those being there. Much more satisfying now. o7

Great scenario! To the commenter who thinks it’s unrealistic that Harriers don’t have radar, I suggest reading up on the specifications of this aircraft and the weapons they carried. Overall, the scenario is easy to play through and doesn’t pose any serious challenges.

On my first playthrough, despite not knowing all the nuances, I managed to destroy all enemy forces while losing only one Harrier and two Cobras. And even then, only the plane was lost in combat - crashed into the ground while trying to evade fire, while the helicopters were lost simply because I was goofing around.

Yes, I would suggest adding 1-2 diesel submarines for the enemy that could "ambush" the U.S. fleet for a torpedo attack.
