Operation TRIDENT - REDFOR

Description
Approximately 30 minutes in duration (with time compression), medium difficulty.

SITUATION

Following an escalation by NATO, the USSR was forced to launch a pre-emptive strike in Scandinavia to safeguard soviet interests. Following the successful capture of south Sweden and Finland, the USSR plans to continue these gains without direct intervention with NATO. Intelligence has advised that a NATO Littoral Action Group (LAG) has sailed heading east, with the intention of landing forces outside of Gdansk under the cover of darkness to establish a beachhead.

MISSION

The Baltic Sea Fleet (BSF) is to DENY access to shore and DESTROY if found to be hostile.

EXECUTION

BSF is to sail from its home port at the rush, heading to Slupska Bank northwest of Gdansk to interdict the NATO taskforce.

ENEMY FORCES

We expect three landing ships with escorts of unknown type. Intelligence suggests a submarine ahead of the convoy; however, this cannot be confirmed.

FRIENDLY FORCES

BSF has air support from Chkalovsk air base with a range of aircraft. There is light to moderate shipping and civilian vessels and aircraft in the area.

LIMITATIONS

Warnings have been issued that all NATO aircraft that enter within 10nm of Soviet forces are liable to be engaged. ROE is weapons tight outside of this exclusion zone.

This is my first mission on the editor, so please do give feedback! If people enjoy this, I’ll make a series. As an avid naval fan, I plan to make realistic style missions based on actual fleet allocations, so they will always be tough!

Are the Tu-22s intended to be used? 12 of them with Bear radar support makes absolute mincemeat of the NATO fleet

That cover art looks like the USS Juneau LPD-10 (Decommissioned).

Many thanks for the feedback Talulah! I've put another scenario up yesterday continuing the storyline (except in my timeline USSR lost this one (sadface)). I like to add a little bit of distance and variety to allow different play-styles where possible

Very fun scenario, lots of potential options for tackling it! Not so short it's over before you know it, not so long that it drags. I can see myself replaying this one a few times just to play around with different approaches and aircraft. Would love to see more like this!
