How to duel in Red Dead Redemption

A simple guide to duels in Red Dead Redemption, the in-game tutorial doesn't seem to explain it very well so I made this guide.

Finding a duel

Often NPCs will challenge you to a duel on the street and you can press the interact button to accept the challenge. You will also duel NPCs if you are caught cheating in poker or as a part of stranger and story missions.

Drawing

After starting the duel, as soon as you see the words draw you must right click and your crosshair will appear below the enemy.

Placing the shots

You will notice the the crosshair seems to be changing colour to white from red and getting smaller. You want to try to time your shots when the crosshair is white and small, this fills up the meter on the right and as long as your meter is higher than the enemy you will win the duel.

Disarming

You can disarm the enemy instead of killing them for +100 honour instead of the default +50 honour you get for winning a duel. To do this, place a shot on the enemies gun/hand and as long as you time it right the duel will end right away and you will have won and spared the enemy NPC.

i didn't even know that I wasn't doing it the intended way lol, i just drew my gun manually from the holster with my mouse and spammed left click on their head.

There are some duels where you cant spare them. Like the herr muller duel in mexico with landon ricketts. I tried many times to disarm him but it would just kill me.

You can also shoot the hat off, he will survive that also and if i remember right you will get more honor.

this is a great guide one thing you don't have to draw the second it says draw you can actually wait and let it zoom in a little more making the disarm much easier.
