Target for Today - Legion Wargames (2017)

Description
From the publishers website:

"TARGET FOR TODAY is a solitaire game that recreates American's Daylight Strategic Bombing Campaign against Nazi Occupied Europe during the Second World War. Considerable research, including review of many oral histories gathered from veterans who flew heavy bombers in the Daylight Strategic Bombing Campaign was done to make Target For Today! function as closely as possible to reality. The game was designed to provide YOU, the player, with the ultimate gaming experience depicting the same types of events and decision making processes experienced by our veterans who flew the real-life missions.

Now, YOU are in command of an individual bomber on an individual mission over Hitler's Third Reich -flying either the B-17F or G Model Flying Fortress or the B24D, or J Model Liberator bomber. A series of individual missions are strung together in the campaign game to form the player's tour of duty. Just as it was in real life, the objective of the game for the player is to survive your tour of duty so you can rotate home.

The US Army Air Forces suffered one of the highest casualty rates of any branch of the military services including the US Marine Corps during World War II. The heavy bomber groups of the 8th Air Force flew a combined total of 10,631 strike missions over Europe during the period of this game. The 8th Air Force lost 4145 bombers on these missions. Surviving your tour of duty could be difficult!

TARGET FOR TODAY is an advanced update of Glen Frank's classic game B17, QUEEN OF THE SKIES. Some familiarity with that game is assumed, but "TARGET FOR TODAY" is a completely new game -you do not need to own B-17, QUEEN OF THE SKIES to play it. New tables are included and the rules are organized according to the sequence of play in any typical mission. TARGET FOR TODAY is designed so that each individual mission is fast and easy to play. The campaign game that comprises your tour of duty offers the player a game that is rich in detail, making the game as realistic as possible while still remaining playable.

In the tradition of B-17 Queen of the Skies, and following in the foot steps of B-29 Superfortress, comes a new solitaire game from Steve Dixon. Bob Best and Shawn Rife Steve Dixon. Tentatively titled "Bombs Away!", it has been renamed "Target for Today!". Fly a single mission, a single campaign or fly the entire air campaign from 1942 to 1945 with the 8th or 15th Air Force, piloting either a B-17F, B17G, B24D, B24J and for those so inclined, the YB-40.
The target list will be greatly expanded for the 8th and 15th Air Forces. Enemy planes we plan to provide are the Me-109, Fw-190, Ju-88, Me-110, Me-210, Me-410, He-162, Me-163, Me-262, and Ta-152."

You will need to own a physical copy of the game in order to use this mod. None of the charts or the gazetteer are included, even though you will see copies of them in my images. Please support the designers and publishers of this game. Link to their website: https://legion-wargames2.mybigcommerce.com/target-for-today/

Consider this mod as a bonus to the owners of the physical copies, because now you can play on TTS also.

I made all of the log sheets and worksheets completely editable for your ease of play. Be careful though, especially if you use WASD to move around during the game, because you can completely erase the info in a certain cell if you aren't careful.

I have included a few extras, for which I give due credit to their creators if you hover over their work in game. I started using the colored cubes to track ammo expenditure as I found it easier. The colors also help track which crewmembers scored hits and kills. However, the log for the B-17E has working check-boxes to track ammo usage if you want to see what that looks like.

Personally I did not find the "Group Game" to be that interesting. I have included the log sheets however, in case you want to play that version. There are other ways to play the Group Game that are detailed in various online sites. The single bomber game was enough record keeping for me. These types of games are what I categorize as roll and write because there are very few actual decisions the player needs to make. Everything else is determined by a roll of the dice. But they can be entertaining games as long as you know what you are getting into. This game is similar to my other uploads which can be found here:

Thanks, tbeaulieu2000. I'll play around with it. Sorry for the stupid questions. i just really like this module and keep finding things I'd like to experiment with.

Finarfin, take one counter out of the infinite supply and uncheck the snap feature. Then right click on the infinite supply and select reset. This will empty it out. Now take the one counter that you un-snapped and place it in the infinite supply. Now every counter you pull out of that infinite supply will be un-snapped. You will have to do this for every infinite supply that you don't want to snap.
You could also just delete the snap points from the player mats.

I have another question: I like to stack counters offset, things like Ace, Passing Shot, etc. I can uncheck Snap each time I draw one, but even if I do this to the infinite supply, it doesn't seem to matter once a draw one out of it. Is there a way I can permanently 'unsnap' counters?

I like that! It looks very nice. I was just using the drawing tool to put a dot on the box, but I like your method better. Thanks for the insight.

See the image on this page that I provided where I used the cubes on one of the missions I played with this mod.

Finarfin, only the B-17E has ammo boxes that can be checked off. All of the other bombers use the little cubes in the bags to mark off ammo usage. You can use any method you want but when I play I use a black cube to indicate a shot that missed the enemy fighter, a yellow cube to show that the shot hit the enemy fighter but did not destroy it, and I use red cubes to indicate a shot that destroyed an enemy fighter. If more than one shot destroyed the fighter I rotate the cube a little to indicate a shared kill. I use a character sheet editor, found here: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1124124634 , to create the editable game sheets.

tbeaulieu2000, your pointers were great for getting the counter positioning more helpful to my eyes. I have a question, if you'd humor me: The beautiful is very interactive, but it doesn't seem that I can mark off ammo usage. Am I doing something wrong by trying to click in the boxes? I hate bothering you with such trivial items. If i knew how to build TTS modules I would just modify it on my own, but I have no clue how you designed that form so everything could be clicked on.

Thank you for the explanation, Mr. Author. I will experiment and find the best settings for me. Excellent job on the module, by the way!

Finarfin, to get shadows to display darker go into your Options > Lighting screen and adjust lighting intensity up until you get shadows. Be aware that adjusting the intensity too much will wash out a lot of colors on the game map and pieces. Also look in your Menu > Configuration screen to set your shadow quality. You can also change your lift height (the little guy lifting weights at the top) to very low so that your objects hover very close to the board and you won't need to look at shadows.

Is it possible to add shadows to the counter or tell me how to do it? I have trouble moving counters into the proper boxes without a visual aid. See the zone marker counter for an example.
