Intro
Hello, I saw that some people don't know that it's still possible to get the multiplayer achievement in XCOM 2. So, I wanted to make this short guide explaining how to both get multiplayer mode to work and how to get the achievement to unlock.
TL;DR
Download the beta and have the person getting the achievement both host the lobby and have a full team of 6 units.
How to Get Multiplayer Mode Working
The multiplayer mode has been disabled in the most recent patch, but you can get it to work again by getting the beta "pre-21.10-support - support branch."

To get this beta, simply go to your Steam library, right-click on the game, then go to Properties > Betas. It should not be a long download.

After the download is complete, simply start the game (with all your mods disabled) and the multiplayer tab should be there. It should work as normal. You can play for fun with a friend or get the achievement associated with the mode.

Speaking of which...
How to Get "The Most Dangerous Game"
There is only one achievement tied to the multiplayer mode, "The Most Dangerous Game" which seems easy to get. The description simply reads "win a multiplayer match." However, this can be buggy and may not appear after winning a game.

First things first, get someone to help. Either get a friend or ask around in the discussions for a partner. There is an existing discussion dedicated to finding a partner for this achievement:

After helping various people with this achievement, I've not discovered why it sometimes doesn't work, but I have found a method that has worked 100% of the times I've tried it . Simply let the person who wants the achievement host a game; it doesn't matter if it's custom, quick match, or ranked. Then, have that same person use a full team of 6 units (it doesn't matter which), start the game, and win. You can switch roles afterward if you both want to get the achievement.

To make it faster, the other person can have a team of 1 Advent Trooper and run to the middle to die quickly. Alternatively, they can leave the game, giving you the win by forfeit, but I have not tried this too many times, so I can't say for certain if the achievement unlocks.

If you have tried this method, please let me know if it worked or not. If it didn't, feel free to add me or comment on this guide so that I can help you figure out why it didn't work.
Extra notes
here are some extra notes that people pointed out or i thought of after writing the guide.
  • you don't need to disable any official DLC's in order to play the multiplayer. however, inviting someone from base game to a WOTC lobby or vice versa will give a version mismatch error.

  • I found an edge case where the method doesn't work. If you win the round by using overwatch to kill the last enemy, the achievement doesn’t pop. So, don't use overwatch i guess.

you don't need to disable any DLC. but if you play on WOTC then make sure that you are both on WOTC, otherwise you will get a error trying to join the lobby.

I'll update the guide to include this info to avoid future confusion.
