(𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒) Optimal MvM Upgrade Paths for All Classes
By Deli
Are you a new player, or looking for a quick guide to help your friend instantly improve at the game? You're in luck! Just click any class section on this guide, observe the upgrade for the weapons you want as well as body and canteen upgrades, and you should be good to go. Just do them in order of top to bottom, and beware I don't cover all weapons. Just the ones in MvM that need to be upgraded. It is a very generalized guide, and doesn't go into very much depth on different strategies you can use.

Overview
The following guide will not go into depth about which weapon loadouts all characters should have. If you really need that much help with it, go watch a video, or queue for Casual, instead.

If you are wanting to test these without spending the money, open the Mann Up tab, and press "Boot Camp" and queue for regular difficulty maps.

If you experience difficulty with dying a lot, ask for advice with people who you are playing with, this guide will not go in depth about playstyles.
Scout
This is the general order for how upgrades should be purchased:
  • 3 ticks of Jump Height
  • 3 ticks of Movement Speed
  • Resistances that are helpful for the wave
  • Milk Slow
  • Milk Recharge Rate
"Any extra cash can be spent on Damage and Clip Size upgrades. I prefer these over the Reload Speed and Firing Speed upgrades since damage isn't your main focus. Burst damage will suit you better in case your Demoman/Sniper/Crutch Passer Pyro fails at taking out the Uber medics."
Soldier
This is the general order for how your maxed upgrades should be purchased:
  • 4 ticks of Reload Speed
  • 3 ticks of Firing Speed
  • 1 Rocket Specialist
  • At least 1 Health on Kill, you can add more later if you like
  • 4 ticks of Damage
  • Some or full ticks of Resistances that apply to the wave
If the mission allows it, any extra cash can be spent on Buff Duration (Secondary) or canteens (Crit or Uber).
Pyro
This is the general order for how your upgrades should be purchased:
  • 1 tick of Health on Kill
  • 4 ticks of Damage
  • 1 tick of Ammo Capacity
  • Resistances that apply to the wave
  • More Ammo Capacity
  • Movement Speed
Any extra cash can be spent on more Health on Kill, Jump Height, Uber Canteens, or even Health Regeneration since Pyro is so much cheaper to upgrade than most classes.
Demoman
This is the general order for how your upgrades should be purchased:
  • 3 ticks of Reload Speed (Secondary)
  • 1 tick of Firing Speed (Only buy if using Stock, not Scottish Resistance.) (Secondary)
  • 4 (Full) Damage (Secondary)
  • At least 1 tick of Health on Kill, you can add more later if you like (Secondary)
  • 1-2 ticks of Clip Size (Secondary)
  • Any amount of resistances that apply to the wave
  • Any extra cash can be spent on Crit/Uber canteens or Ammo Capacity (Secondary)
Heavy
This is the general order for how your upgrades should be purchased:

  • At least 1 tick of Health on Kill, you can add more later if you want
  • Resistances specific to the wave
  • 4 (Full) Firing Speed
  • 1 tick of Projectile Penetration
  • More Resistances
  • Ammo Capacity
If the mission allows it, any extra cash can be spent on Destroy Projectiles (if bought, you must get 2 ticks and not just 1), Movement Speed (especially Brass Beast), or Canteens (Crit or Uber).
Engineer
  • 3 ticks of Dispenser Range
  • 1 tick of 2 Way Teleporters
  • 3 ticks of Building Health
  • 1 tick of Sentry Firing Speed
If the tour has tanks, equip the Widowmaker and buy 4 (Full) ticks of Max Firing Speed on it.
Medic
This is the general order for how your maxed out upgrades should be purchased:
  • Projectile Shield
  • Healing Mastery
  • Overheal Expert
  • Übercharge Rate
  • Übercharge Duration
  • Movement Speed/Resistances
  • Mad Milk Syringes/Melee Attack Speed
Sniper
This is the general order for how your upgrades should be purchased:
  • 1 tick of Explosive Headshot
  • 3 (Full) Full Reload Speed
  • 1 tick of Health on Kill
  • 2 more ticks of Explosive Headshot (Max it out now)
  • 4 (Full) Damage
  • Projectile Penetration
  • Maybe Faster Charge Rate (depends on wave and playstyle)
  • Any amount of Ammo Capacity
  • Resistances that apply to the wave (late waves only)
Spy
This is the general order for how your upgrades should be purchased:
  • 4 (Max) Armor Penetration (Melee)
  • 4 (Max) Attack Speed (Melee)
  • Appropriate Resistances for the wave
  • 3 (Max) Movement Speed
  • Any amount of Health Regeneration
  • Any extra credits can be spent on Jump Height, Sapper Power, or Uber Canteens

eh, weird upgrade paths for most classes and you really wanna adjust upgrades based on wave and team. slow milk is pretty useless overall if you have full speed since you can easily catch a big scout that wasnt bodyblocked. ubercharge rate is one of the last upgrades i would ever buy because most waves give you plenty of ubersaw hits and there is no point in spamming kritz when theyre not needed. spy is hard to be useful with unless you can pretty much max him and health regen seems like a waste. explosive headshot needs to be at least 2 for small uber med groups. advising against firing speed on scottish???
kinda rambling but this guide is pretty bad

-rep.The hell is this guide.Thats not how upgrades work. You take upgrades based on what you need.Spy is the best example for that.Do you need a medic killer/money collecter.Get move speed and some resistances.Too many giants?Get the knife upgrades.

The path which you should follow for upgrades depends on mission and player skill.A good scout doesnt need to spend money on resistance,he can instead spent it on the shiny shortstop to shot the stupid silly bots better.

This guide is honestly the worst for any new player.Dont follow it

Worst guide ive seen EVER, I hope no new mvm players follow this guide.
Keter May 27 @ 5:48pm
-rep Worst guide i seen.
Doesnt even say what upgrades to focus on first.

This is truly awful. The fact that you believe that this constitutes a "guide" is a shining example of what is currently wrong with the game mode. Scoutfingers and Catrain are literally the worst two people you could've referenced.

No resistances for the medic? Sorry, that is not a good guide.
