Mirror knight sold separately


The bigass mirror for the gimmicky but well crafted mirror bastard himself.
Packaged separately because I'm an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥; but also because it needed a tutorial of sorts. Else the whole mirror part of the mirror doesn't work. I think we both know that would be outright tragic.

So anyway this is how this thing is set up. First off there are two models. There's the mirror. Then there's the mirror without envmaps. What's the difference?

One looks like ♥♥♥♥ in the dark and the other doesn't.





Skingroups are ordered as follows.

1 - flat
2 - warped (without env no matter which model it is)
2* - warped (with envmap. regular mirror only)
3 - rt camera (warped)
4 - warped (beta envmap)
5 - rt camera (flat)


So just what is all this rt_camera crap anyway? The source engine can project a viewing point as a texture and apply it to brushes and (with some tampering) models. They work much like any other texture save for they update in real time.

This model is set up to use rt_camera's mostly for cosmetic purposes. For this specific model any image projected will be flipped. Hence mirror.

This applies to text. The shield isn't a book. You can't read it.
Reading is for losers anyway.

You should also throw this in your launch options
-monitortexturesize 1024
The default rt camera res is pretty pathetic. Unfortunately 1024 is as high as it goes.


It also has a bone (pseudo_reflection_bind) specifically to root and pivot a camera to for sfm use. It helps fake reflections if that's what you're going for.

to comment on one of the images, i really like how ornstein is looking into the mirror to see the dark version of himself from the blue cathedral, very nice indeed blueflytrap!

Unfortunately for us it appears to be neither.

Rather it was either a large ornate jewel before the game launched. Post launch the arena the knight himself resides in has no cubemaps of any kind; giving the mirror a hue of pure black and making it look more akin to a void rather than a mirror; or glass for that matter.

Which is a shame because if the Mirror Knight is spawned in other locations it does in fact 'reflect.'
