Guppy on Steam
Guppy Mac confirmed
Release date: Out Now
Guppy is a 2D watercolor fish simulation that tries to replicate the way fish propel themselves through the water, moving their tail left and right.

Venture carefully into the open in search of food, hide in the shade of lilies to avoid predators and swim with friendly schools of fish. Try not to get eaten.

You can get it right now at

  • swim like a fish!
  • procedural levels
  • 2-player co-op
  • watercolors

If the game is greenlit I plan to release an updated version on Steam for Windows and Linux (Ubuntu). I am also working on a Mac version.

If you like the game and would like to see it on Steam, please upvote!

Q: Is this a mobile game?

A: Yes and no. It was originally developed for Windows and later ported to Android, Linux (Ubuntu) and HTML5. A Mac version is in the works and I am also looking into porting it to iOS.

Q: Will it be free?

A: Depends. I'm considering either releasing the current version with only minor improvements for free, OR a slightly expanded version for around 2 USD / 1.50 EUR.

Q: Expanded how?

A: I would probably make levels a bit bigger and add a few more elements to the procedural level generation to make it more varied. Might also integrate the other modes (Follow and Bubbles) into the main game instead of having them separate.

@Pluma the Fluffy Dragon: No worries, everyone has their preferred system. Ideally games should be available on as many platforms as possible. I'm certainly going to try to support as many as I reasonably can. With Mac right now I have a working version but I still need to sort out the proper submission process and all that before I can release it. If you can't wait, send me an email ( and you can help test the Mac version, if you like.

that is pretty explanitory, but honestly, in the future, more games should be made for mac (and the other few types of computer) or ported to Mac. I really know it is pretty superior to Windows (and Linux) because I have used the others and they never quite worked right for me. Mac is actually made to have superior video capacity without being a hand-made computer, and it doesn't cost as much to get (some of the time, depending on what one is making). I'm simply stating this because we need Mac as not only a development computer, but a gaming one. I am also quite prepared for the unneeded hate that may come due to my opinion.

@Pluma the Fluffy Dragon: There tends to be a fair number of people who appreciate Linux support so I wouldn't begrudge others their platform of choice, but you'll be happy to know a Mac version is coming.

As for why Linux first... as a Windows user on an engine with multi-platform support, supporting Linux costs me nothing except a bit of setup time, whereas building for Mac I have to buy hardware and a developer subscription plus learn how to use a Mac and navigate Apple's intricate certificate, license and submission process. So for me Mac is both more expensive and significantly more work to support.

I don't understand how games will come out for Linux before Mac... I don't know anyone who uses a linux for gaming.

Looks interesting, kind of reminds me of old interactive PC screensavers and the like. Something you might switch on to play when you want something not too taxing.

There is no customization at the moment.

OK so I know its just guppies but if I wanted to color my toon like Ponyo or Nemo is that something I can do right off the bat or is customization earned?

No seahorses, just guppies.
