Play Myar Aranath on Linux
By scribdo
This is a guide on how to install and play the SureAI Total Conversion Mod Myar Aranath on Linux.
It only works for the German version of the game and mod.

There is a way to play the English version as well, I found this reddit post with a guide for Windows: https://www.reddit.com/r/enderal/comments/56m3te/myar_aranath_english_version/
You may be able to adapt that to my guide, but you are on your own since I only tested the German version.

Requirements
Download the full version of Myar Aranath and every patch exluding the last one (Version Fix).
Dowload the additional patch seperately from the link above!
Install SteamTinkerLaunch

Prepare Myar Aranath Directory
  • Copy Morrowind folder to new folder called Myar_Aranath
    cp -a ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Morrowind ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Myar_Aranath
  • Delete Morrowind Saves in Myar_Aranath folder if necessary
    rm ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Myar_Aranath/Saves/*.ess
Install Myar Aranath with SteamTinkerLaunch
Change Wine Settings with winecfg
  • Start Morrowind with SteamTinkerLaunch and enter MAIN MENU
  • Go to "One time run" and launch winecfg
  • Select "Show dot files" in the drives section
Important, so that you can select your Myar_Aranath directory later on in the installer
  • (optional) Change wine dpi in graphics section (for high dpi screens)
    I chose 144 dpi on a 4k screen
Run Myar Aranath Installer
  • Close winecfg, click on "One time command" and select the Myar_Aranath_Setup.exe
  • Leave default Proton version and click on "Run command"
  • Click through Installer and select your Myar_Aranath folder you have created before for the installation directory, e.g. ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Myar_Aranath
This will probably be under Z:\...
  • Make to sure remove `\Morrowind` at the end (will be appended automatically)
  • After the Setup you should have mae.exe in the Myar_Aranath folder
Install Patch 1.31
  • Repeat the steps above for MA_PATCH_1.31.exe
Configure Custom Command
  • Go back to the MAIN MENU and enter the GAME MENU at the bottom
  • Under "Misc options" check "Use custom command" and "Only custom command"
  • Then for the custom command select the mae.exe in your Myar_Aranath Folder
  • Hit Save and close out of SteamTinkerLaunch
Install other Patches (esp files)
  • Copy the other patches (esp files) into Myar_Aranath/Data Files
Configure Myar Aranath
Set Morrowind Launcher Executable in Myar Aranath Launcher
  • Hit play on Steam and wait for the Myar Aranath Launcher to start
  • Check "Autostart(MW)" and Search for Morrowind Launcher.exe in your Myar_Aranath folder
  • Check "Close with MW.exe" as well
Enable Myar Aranath Files in Morrowind Launcher
  • Close out of the Launcher and start Morrowind again
  • The Morrowind Launcher should now open
  • Make sure to check additional Files like shown here:

  • Patches 1.0 to 1.1 and 1.1.2 do not have to be ticked as they are included in the other patch already
(Optional) Change Morrowind Exectuable
  • If everything is set you can close out of the Morrowind Launcher and update the executable in the Myar Aranath Launcher to Morrowind.exe, that way the Morrowind Launcher is skipped on next launch
(Optional) Install Morrowind FPs Optimizer or MGE XE
  • I recommend FPs Optimizer as it is integrated in the Myar Aranath Launcher already and MGE XE had some problems especially with MWSE and Morrowind Code Patch
  • Installing either allows for 16:9 resolutions, custom FOV and more
Installing FPs Optimizer
  • Download and extract files into Myar_Aranath folder
  • Check "Autostart(FPS O)" in Myar Aranath Launcher and select the mw_fps_opt.exe you put in your Myar_Aranath folder
  • Restart Morrowind and FPs Optimizer should pop up
  • Uncheck "novice mode" to get more settings
  • Click on "change Morrowind registry settings here" to apply a modern resolution and refresh rate

  • Under "misc/2" you can update your FOV to a 16:9 aspect ratio

  • I also recommend checking "Terminate with Morrowind" under "system" so that everything closes when you exit the game
