Welcome!
Hello there traders and welcome to Things to avoid while trading is CS:GO! This guide has been constructed in association with Sir Fluffys Studios who produce things like this daily.

Anyway, whether you are an experienced trader, a novice or just someone with a few in game drops you don't need, ANYONE can fall victim to these trading mistakes that can not only give you a bad trade, but can cost you your steam profile!

This guide is for all levels of trader and even if you have been trading for years, it is recommended that you still read this as new types of scams and the like develop everyday to try and trick YOU out of your hard earned wallet money... and I don't just mean steam wallet either!
Scammers

You always need to be extra careful while trading. Check everything twice and make sure trade is legit and just how you want it. If you do not like a trade, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DO IT! For the love of God only accept trades you are happy with and do not feel pressured into trades you don't want to do. If the offer is worth it in terms of value but you don't like the skins pattern, you don't need to do the trade!

Often while trading, you will meet some players who will offer you an awesome deal, like his AK-47 Black Laminate FN for your M4A4 Asiimov. Deal sounds great and you start a trade. He puts up his AK-47 and some other cheap weapons without any reason, then you accept trade and see, that he have swapped his FN Ak-47 for FT Ak-47 and you just got scammed! To avoid this, all you need to do is triple check! Make sure that the item is exactly what you think it is! As you hover your mouse over an item in the trade window, you will notice a drop down menu button. Click this and click view in community market. From there you can make sure you are getting the correct item.

Also very popular scam type is Phishing. In this case, a random player adds you to his/her friends list. You accept and he will copy and paste a message containing something like:''Hey man! I would like to trade my Karambit for your AUG Storm, but I can't add you (Steam problems and stuff :D) Soo here is my profile steamcomrnunity.com/homoScammer ADD ME'' or even more common, they will say things like: "Hey my friend can't add you it says Exeeded max friends add for 1 day. Please add him. This is his account staemcommurity.com/ihavenoheartcusiscam" etc.
You click the link and see steam login screen. You type your Username and password, and BOOM! They now have your user and pass for steam. Your inventory is then emptied, wallet money sold and password changed. What happens then you may ask? YOU become one of the accounts that sends these spam messages. The person behind these scams implants the bot onto your account and you are now a host for this phishing scam. You can avoid this by not being a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥♥♥! Look at the link! Look carefully. How fast did the message send? Does their account look legit? All of these things should help you decide if it's a scam bot which it more often than not is. All you have to do now is remove, block and report them. I made a video about this here as it happened to me:

One of the other types of scams however is the paypal scam! This works like this. You will get a message saying someone would like to pay REAL money for your skins via paypal and they offer a decent amount too! You're happy, you accept and to avoid scams they even offer to pay first! They send the money and you see it there sat in your paypal balance! The moneys there, no way they can scam you now right? WRONG! You send the items to them in a trade with a smile on your face and begin to think what you will spend the money on. Then, a few hours later you notice the money isn't there anymore... oh dear. But how did this happen!? Paypal offers a refund system that will instantly remove the money from the persons account and send it straight back to them but of course paypal doesn't know about those 3 knives or whatever you just sent to that "person" in exchange for the money they just took back off of you. You think they will send those items back? No. I don't either. But how do you avoid this? It's difficult when it involves real money but there are ways. First of all, you can just not trade for real money. It's kind of a bummer but it is VERY risky when it involves real money. The second way is to keep a record of everything you do. They money being received, the trade happening, screenshots of the chat etc. However, paypal don't accept this as proof of a trade so the other option is to NOT USE PAYPAL! I know it's the most common way of transferring money like this but with such a flawed system, why would you want to use it?

Like I said before just be extra careful. That is the main way to avoid being caught by things like this.
Sharks

(Sharking is legal and not punishable in most communities)
Sharking is a way of trading. This method guarantee huge profit, that is why soo many sharks are swimming around here. It works like this. A pro Shark will approach a player with 75 CS:GO hours and recently unboxed knife.

He will be very polite and friendly, so the player will trust him, then he says something like this'' Hey pal! Would you like trade your {name of the knife} for my CS:GO weapons?'' In most cases player accepts trade and see the offer the shark has for him. Because of the lack of experience, the player will choose the coolest looking gun and will demand it for knife (Aug storm for example) Sharker will think about this trade, and then will add some more cheap guns and accept trade. Only later, the player will find out that he got ripped off.

This is basically a player taking advantage of a player's lack of experience. It's a real douchey thing to do but it does happen.

Only thing you can do in this case, is check prices on market, that is the only way.
Some sharks will try to trick some experienced players, but if you find out the little secret, sharks will swim away.

Just do your homework before you trade, that's how to avoid this kind of thing.
Lowballers

Lowballers are traders, who will offer you items that are worth a lot less your skins (M4A4 Asiimov BS for any karambit) They are similar to sharks, but they don't take advantage of little experience as much, they just try their luck.

Some of these traders are very rude and will yell at you if you will say that the trade is unfair, maybe, even report you for scamming or sharking!

Lowballers are not dangerous at all, but they are annoying as hell, so just keep a safe distance from them.

Please do NOT confuse low ballers with people offering a trade worth a little less. Lowballers offer cheap ♥♥♥♥♥♥ items for expensive things off you. This does not include differences of a dollar or two, more like hundreds of dollars. Please don't call people offering slightly inferior trades lowballers. Everyone want's profit, if a trade is to low for you just ask for a few more items or some different ones etc to try and get to an even trade for both of you. This is bartering and is not to be confused with low balling.
Other stuff
Now, while I covered players you need to avoid, there are some other things that could ruin your trading career forever.
  • New items: You should never stick with new skins, because, later , all demand for it will fall, making price crash hardly. So, if you have bought new item, sell it as fast as possible!
  • Low activity items: If you manage to get some cool looking stattrack karambit knife and you want to keep it, it's cool, but if you want to sell it for more items or for money, you are in big trouble. You can easily get stuck with expensive item, even for all your life , because you will need to find trader that is willing to pay much, and believe me, it is not that easy. Just have patience.
  • Low demand items: What I mean by this is, don't trade say a $5 AWP, for a $6 Negev. Some weapons are harder to shift than others because people simply don't use them. If people are going to pay high prices for skins, they wanna get their moneys worth! And who uses a negev? Nobody that's who! Who uses an AWP? Everone... unfortunatly.
The End!
Thanks for reading this guide (This guide was made in association with Sir Fluffys Studios! Click here to join and stay informed on more stuff like this)
All this guide was made for new traders, so they can enjoy fun of trading without being in fear of all things I mentioned earlier.
Good luck and Happy trading!
P.S. Guide is still WIP
