Because after that point is when the engine's built in networking API stopped working.

why would it have to be one before vanessa's curse actually?

Gotcha that satiated my curiosity, thanks cookiecat!

If GFB enables the feature I will look into it, however I'm unsure if any newer versions would fix issues. It would have to be a game version released before Vanessa's Curse.

Are there any plans to move Archipelago support to a newer (not newest) version of the game to support more mods? Now that you can assign workshop items to specific versions of games?

Verifying integrity of game cache, or what riku said, deleting a workshop content folder before booting the game up seems to be a workaround

Sorry, renaming the folder was a temporary fix. Maybe the shadercache upk just got corrupted and when steam tried to replace it, it didn't work very well. It redownloaded it and it's not crashing for now. But if it gets corrupted again, I guess you might have to manually delete it idk. It only did this when I connected an external controller (?)

I was having an issue where connecting my PS5 controller before starting the game, would open the game for a second, then close it and validate files for some reason.
It turns out the Shadercache folder in the mod got corrupted somehow and it kept triggering a game crash. I renamed it to "Shadercache.old" and the game started fine.
I experienced this problem on a steam deck.
The mod folder is <steamDrive>/steamapps/workshop/content/253230/3026842601.

To anyone getting the dreaded startup crashing issues: This is NOT something I can fix. I have looked into it many many times and I can only conclude it to be an issue of some sort with the base game. If the issue is happening to you, others have commonly reported that subscribing to any mod on the workshop may fix it.
