First playable, so called Demo ist out!
Some Info about the Demo:
  • This is a very early build. Many things could be changed in the final game!
  • Every scene who has a "Prototyp" written on the top right of the screen, will be completely renewed later.
  • I recommend to play the game in English, since the German text is not yet that well translated. (My opinion)
  • There are definitely some spelling and grammar mistakes in both the English and German version. Remember, this is just a prototype.
  • Read the helpscreen available in the Main Menu or by pressing F2 for the key bindings (F4 to F7 = Quicksave, F8 to F11 = Quickload)
  • The demo ends when the yard-time starts but not every possible way to get there, will reveal the same amount of background story.
  • You can skip cutscenes with the ESC key but I don't recommend it since persons not always stand in the right place after the skip. It's better to skip dialogs by pressing the left mouse button. (I can not successfully hide the cursor without "Cutscene Actionparts" at this time.)
  • If you want the project file of the game to see how I've done things, just send me a message. Since this is a prototype and I'm still learning Visionaire, it's probably not well programmed at the moment.

The main decisions you'll have to make are:
  • Drop the knife out the window or hide it somewhere/somehow
  • Speak with the "Crazy One" in the Canteen or make friends with "Red"

Knowing Bugs:
  • Animations: There are sadly 2 to 3 animations like "take this", "give her that" left to do. But the important animations are visible in the demo.
  • In the "Day 2" Screen you'll have to click "Day 2" to continue the game. (This scene will also be renewed completely later.)
  • In one puzzle solution you'll have to catch a falling water drop from the ceiling in the cell. This should be a cutscene with no interface visible 'till the drop falls. Sadly the mouse cursor is visible during this cutscene. I tried to hide all interfaces, set the visibility to 0% but it's not working yet. So when Jill stands underneath the puddle, holding the yoghurt to catch the drop, just wait until one is falling.

Some Background Information or let's say: My Comments: (Spoiler Alert)

  • The Cell Wall:
  • You may not notice it but you can click on 6 different bricks on the wall in the cell. Which brick will be loosening depends on which part of the wall you click. This is not very important but I think it's a nice gimmick but I guess you didn't notice it? It was also a pain in the a-es-es to make it work. ;-)
  • The Cat:
  • The cat was originally a rat but I couldn't find any nice sound fx for a rat. Every piece I tried sounded more like a machine or an alien, since you don't see the rat. The puzzle was also confusing with the bad rat sound. I hope with the cat it makes a little more sense now. (The cat will be important later in the game.)
  • Talk With People:
  • I will later implement more dialogs about other inmates. Since everybody knows everyone they should definitely talk more about other inmates. In the demo I just scratched the surface of this dialogs. There will be more soon.
  • Everything Has Deeper Consequences:
  • I really never thought it would cost me so much time to test such a game. I planed to make two solutions for every bigger puzzle. With combining them all together it showed me, that there are now actually about 6 different walkthroughs just for the demo.

Description
Prison Escape will be a classic point and click adventure in which everything you'll do or say will have deeper consequences.

You play a younger woman named Jill who tries to break out of the prison. There is a middle to big backstory that reveals itself during the game, like the question why was Jill arrested in the first place and why does she wants to get out as fast as possible. Also other inmates will have a rich backstory to explore.

The special thing in this game is that every puzzle has two or more ways to solve it and probably everything you do or say changes the progress of the game. So there are many possible ways to get out of that prison and a reason to play the game at least twice I hope.

Besides there is not much you can do in prison I added some sidekicks for the protagonist like cockroaches or rats and other player-controlled animals that will help Jill to escape. There is also a little fight system because sometimes violence is the only way to go.

The goal is to synchronize the game in English or German (or both). This depends on many factors right now. But surely the subtitles will be in English and German. I'm also searching some graphic artists since my artwork is awful.

The development is still in the beginning. There will be a short prototype-like demo in a few days. I should also mention that the graphics in the screenshots are just a prototype to show the idea but I guess the game stays in a pixelate retro look. (320x200)

Thank you very much for your comment. These are exactely the problems I'm dealing with at the moment. The prison cell background is handdrawn without consider much about the vanishing point. Therefor the objects look disturbing in this scene. I've got also problems to draw that sink. It's sadly just the silly sketch one right now.

Although the backgrounds look good. It's some objects that kill the atmosphere (like that toilet, the sink and the character itself). Overall I like it.

Well about graphics. Since it's a 2D game (more or less). I think you either have to pixelate them more or bring them more to real looking. Because right now it looks inbetweenishly awkward.

If you make the graphics one of the first things you mention, it's going to be one of the things you will be judged on.
