Silverstone 2016

The Silverstone Circuit, located in Northamptonshire, England, is one of the most iconic in Formula 1, having hosted the championship's very first Grand Prix in 1950. Built on a former World War II airfield, the current layout (Grand Prix configuration of 5.891 km) features 18 corners, with highlights including the fast Maggotts-Becketts-Chapel sequence and the Hangar Straight, which allows speeds over 330 km/h with DRS. The track is renowned for its high average speed layout (around 240 km/h), abrasive asphalt that accelerates tire wear, and high-downforce corners such as Copse (turn 9, taken at over 290 km/h in fifth gear) and Stowe (turn 15). The circuit favors cars with strong aerodynamic balance and requires medium-to-high downforce setups for the fast sections, while the DRS zones on the main straight and Wellington Straight facilitate overtaking.
