About The Game

In her mid-20's, Kelly has moved back into her parents' house. Back to the flat expanse of Nebraska, that seemingly endless sea of rustling cornstalks peppered by rusty silos and rustier towns. A typically intense Midwestern storm is approaching while Kelly is out; she needs to get home.

In Three Fourths Home, players assume the role of Kelly while she is driving home during this thunderstorm. The focus of the game is its narrative, conveyed through an extended conversation Kelly has with her parents and younger brother. The player must navigate the conversation while driving through a stylized representation of rural Nebraska set against rumbling thunder and the music playing from the car's tape deck.

Three Fourths Home is a look into a specific moment of these characters' lives and their relationships with one another. The narrative touches on a variety of issues affecting Kelly and her family, including disability, adulthood, familial obligation, nostalgia, and loss.

Official Website[]

The bulk of the gameplay in Three Fourths Home revolves around dialogue choice. The story is conveyed through a single conversation that Kelly has with her mother, father, and younger brother. There are nearly 500 unique dialogue choices, and while they don't necessarily change the flow of the game, they flavor the story and aim to flesh out the relationships that Kelly has with her family.

The other main gameplay component involves driving. It's handled simply, but the player must keep driving in order to further the conversation and the story. If the player stops driving, time slows to a crawl and the player cannot progress. The player also has the option to fiddle with a number of secondary components of the car, such as the tape deck, headlights, etc.

Critics' Response

"Everything within this world is written for you, but within Nebraska’s starkness lies a comprehensive image of this family deeply saddening in its complexion."
Adam Paris, Indie Statik[]

"Three Fourths Home meets us at that chaotic intersection in life. It's between the longing past and uncertain future, somehow still on the fringes of teenage despair, not yet fully taking on the burden of adulthood."
Chris Priestman, Kill Screen[]

"Three Fourths Home is a triumph. Its melancholy presentation, from the tone of the conversation, the ever invading diegetic sounds and the clean visuals focus your attention on the topics it discusses. The quality of writing will make you care about the family and their troubles and you'll consider each sentence you chose to reply with."
Nathan Toper, Gamerscape[]

"...the scrolling visuals alongside the story, and the feeling that you're pushing the car onwards through the rain, had a real impact for me. You might want to see if it does something for you too."
Michael Rose, Indie Games[]

"It’s a borderline eerie look into the relationship of a family, and one that may ring familiar with some."
Davidlee Jolley, Indie Game Magazine

Not all people here enjoy chaos, some of us just love a good story in a calm (if not spooky) enviroment.

Just finished the game, and I'm very pleasantly surprised.

It'll take time for me to understand exactly how all the little details fit together, but I've immensely enjoyed my time with Three Fourths Home and its well-written, relatable characters.

Normally love narrative/story games, but this one is suuuuper dull. I played it through a couple times, intentionally picking very different answers and couldn't get any real variance out of the story.

love it!
