The Neural Network

The Neural Network is an adventure role-playing story.

Enter a world where social networking has been embedded into the deepest aspects of everyday life. Everyone across the solar system is permanently plugged-in to Neuro, the future of social networks that informs friends and strangers alike of your favorite movie, where you spend your time, the article you read last night... and what you’re thinking right now. For billions, Neuro is more than just a place to share thoughts – it’s a fact of life.

Mason Matthews is one of those billions, a freelance courier who spends his days delivering packages throughout the solar system. But everything changes after Matthews makes a seemingly-routine delivery to Neuro’s headquarters, unwittingly aiding a terrorist plot to bring down Neuro and disrupt life as usual for the entire human race! Now Matthews, accused of being involved in the attack, must travel the solar system, recruit allies, and solve puzzles to clear his name and discover who is truly behind the heinous act.

The Neural Network will be sold for $4.99 USD

  • Experience the story of Mason Matthews, a man on the run after being accused of terrorism
  • Immerse yourself in a future dominated by an extreme take on today’s social networking trends
  • Explore a sci-fi world with destinations across the solar system
  • Interact with a cast of characters that will help – or harm – your mission
  • Enjoy a fast-paced game where story comes first, with no grinding or pointless sidequests to slow you down

What is the gameplay like?
The gameplay can be compared to linear 16-bit RPGs without combat. In The Neural Network you will be placed in an environment that you can progress through and explore at your own pace - taking time to talk to NPCs instead of just progressing through the story can be very rewarding. Also, you will occasionally need to complete puzzles as you navigate through the environment. Mason Matthews is equipped with a device that can manipulate gravity, allowing him to lift and move heavy objects around an environment. These puzzles are secondary to the story, but they help to break up the pace of the game.

What other games is it like?
The easiest comparison is To The Moon by Freebird Games. Both To The Moon and The Neural Network emphasize story over gameplay emphasizing the characters the game is focused around. Check out To The Moon if you haven’t yet!

What is the The Neural Network's price?
The Neural Network will be $4.99 at launch, a price we feel is appropriate for the high quality story, but not AAA graphics, featured in the game.

Are these graphics final?
No, things can still change, but the 16-bit style will remain the same. As we prepare for our September 18th launch we are spending time on improving the graphics as well as polishing the rest of the aspects of the game. We are taking all feedback seriously and seeing how we can integrate the responses we have gotten to have a better game when we launch.

I would say the story has potential but the rest needs to be reworked.

Why not try a proper isometric projection [] or an oblique projection []?
Coding the rendering logic of an isometric/oblique engine is not hard.

As for the artwork, as everyone else has mentioned, it sucks. It's great that you have tried to make your own but this is not a good idea. Find a graphic designer. I would guess it shouldn't be too hard to find some artist in the interwebs that would be willing to partner up with you in this project. Find artists among amateur/indie developers circles, for example, from artists that have participated in the global game jam []

At first I thought of how this game might pan out, then I read further about what you have going on. Basically you are saying the game progess's by you talking to random NPCS. oh and sometimes you will have to use a "gravity gun" to solve box based puzzles, in order to talk to more npcs. So basically you want 5 dollars, to tell us a story, to shit music no less (sorry but the constant buzzing is really irritating, I barely made it through the video clip) I'm gonna play the demo before I vote, to be fair, but I doubt I would pay five dollars for you to tell me a story. If you like you can use my idea of make it some sort of a choose your own adventure story. at least that might make it interesting. oh and make sure you include an option to turn off that music.

fuck me Steam needs to incorporate a bare minimum requirement for game quality before they let things onto greenlight, just some much crap from idiots trying to cash in on the easy money of indie games.
It's drowning real games and developers and opening up Steams customers to more and more robbery by so called devs.

Cannot understand how steam continues to let this glut of crap games happen.

Is it MS Paint week on Greenlight?

Never have I had to vote on so many crappy looking games in one GL session.

No No just 10 times NO.

Go back to school and learn a new trade. One you're actually capable of.
