EDIT: Once, I lost interest in the game. This is before the enhanced edition, even. I never updated the mod, and I don't know what the EE changes, so this mod is useless.
I'll keep it up for reference use.

Both companions have reworked stats, skills, abilities and talents. Everything is balanced as if they went through character creation, except for some minor stat tweaking to make them stand off on their own.
They start out at level 1, so they level up to the player's level once you let them join.
Matching equipment for these changes.

Changed Madora to a sword-and-shield fighter so she now acts as a tank. (And a loot hauler, gave her the Packmule trait as an extra!)

Jahan has Aerothurge, Pyrokinetics and improved Willpower.

He now has better synchronisation with a player-created wizard with spells of the opposite schools; Hydrosophy and Geomancy.
If you do not create a wizard of your own, he just has a different build.

Move this file to *:\Users\[username]\Documents\Larian Studios\Divinity Original Sin\Mods

Mods most likely do not work together and require a new game to be started. These are unresolvable issues at the moment. So stick to one mod or combine files manually. (That could be a lot of work!)

When paired with a second wizard, the changes to Jahan allow you to chain-link spells within the same turn, for extra damage. As opposed to vanilla Jahan, who had two schools that complimented each other, which would take two turns to chain. By combining two wizards, they can chain in the same turn.
Mind you, this chainlinking will only work if you create a spellcaster with opposite schools.

For instance:
Turn 1: Player casts Midnight Oil -> Jahan casts Firebolt
Turn 2: Player casts Rain -> Jahan casts Blitzbolt
Turn 1: Player casts Midnight Oil
Turn 1: Jahan casts Rain
Turn 2: Player casts Firebolt
Turn 2: Jahan casts Blitzbolt

The former instantly gets you the damage in the same turn whereas the latter will make you vulnerable to being unable to complete the chain in the second turn.

Shit man, don't have the game installed, so I don't remember exactly.
I believe you need to unpack the gamefile, then just navigate the folders to where the character spreadsheet is.

Where and how would I go about editting the information for Jahan, in your Mod or otherwise? Which specific file? Essentially I just want default Jahan and Maddy except I want to remove "Scientist" from Jahan and give him "Know It All".

I haven't updated this mod in ages. It might not be compatible for some reason. I'm rather entrailed with other stuff lately, but feel free to open up the files and edit them yourself.
It's just editing a spreadsheet, anyone can do it.

I can find the mod, it's there and it's ticked but it made no difference to the game, I'm not tech knowledgable enough to edit current save files and obviously I have to play up to point to find out if the mod is working, I'm already on my 4th restart and really don't wanna have to restart any more times so some help would be appreciated. I've played this game all week and I'm still not out of the first area due to restarts.

@loweb1: I modded the files, that's how. :P Everything is stored in editable files. Anything about the character, any items, what those items do, everything.
@holf: They're both buffed to be equal to the player, with a small bonus. Madora gets the pack mule thing as an extra and I can't remember what I gave Jahan. I think an extra point somewhere.

How did you get their stats to be less than 5? We can't normally do that when starting a new character can we?
