Introduction
What force beckons adventurers into the labyrinth?

Different souls from distant shores, of each their team, with each their goals.
For as long as the labyrinth has existed, there have been those who would brave its depths.

These tales are but drops in an ocean of countless such adventures.
The labyrinth welcomes all; those who know it’s depths, and those who soon will.

Welcome to the world of Wizardry.
Game Progression
Wizardry is a first-person dungeon crawling RPG.
The game is divided into episodes, each with their own unique story and contents.

While the game’s rules and setting is that of a standard medieval fantasy RPG, the episodes within will present players with a wide range of unique experiences.

Basic game progression is outlined below.
This progression will be similar across all episodes.
  1. Create characters.
  2. Party recruitment.
  3. Prepare equipment and items.
  4. Enter the labyrinth.
  5. Return to base.
  6. Level Up/Rest/Heal
  7. Begin again from 2 (Or possibly 1,if one or all party members have fallen)
Your goals across each tale will differ in detail, of course. However, you will often be tasked with venturing into the labyrinth to retrieve an item of great importance, and return it to the castle whereupon the proof of your brave journey will earn you a new title of repute, granting you access to further labyrinths in turn.

Home
This is the first place you will visit when your adventure begins. From here you can access places like the Shop and Inn.

If you’ve just started your game, go to the Edge of Town and create a character from the Training Grounds. In most scenarios you will be able to find sample characters to recruit in the Tavern, however, these characters will possess only the bare minimum abilities. If you wish to quickly learn what the game is like, going into the Maze with these characters may not be a bad idea

If you want to continue a scenario from where you left off, go to the Edge of Town and select “Resume”.

Tavern
In the Tavern you will be able to manage and edit the party you will be traveling the maze with along with gold and items.
  • Party members
Build a party of up to 6 members. The characters you create in the Training Grounds will be waiting for you here as well.
Selecting a character from “Add” will add them to the party window.
Selecting “Remove” will remove the character from your party and send them back to the Tavern.
You can check any character’s parameter/owned item by placing the cursor over their name.
・When building a party, you will not be able to add characters of opposing alignments. Neutral alignment characters will be able to join both good and evil, however, good characters cannot join parties of evil and vice versa. Alignment of characters can change based on many aspects during the game so be careful.

・During battle, the first 3 characters in your party will act as your front line and the remaining 3 will fight from behind. For more information on positioning, check the “Battle Screen” segment from the index on the right.
  • Gold management
By selecting “Pool gold” you can pool all of your party’s gold to one character.
By selecting “Divvy gold” you can evenly divide the gold amongst your party. Any remainders will go to the leading character.

  • Item Box
A single character can hold up to 10 items at a time. Any items that you don’t need to use right away can be sent to the Item Box. You can also stock gold too. Depending on how your adventure goes in the maze, it may be difficult to collect any lost items or gold, so make a habit of depositing items to the Item Box.
・You can deposit up to 250 of each item (grouped into major categories such as Weapons and Armor).

Inn
By staying at an Inn, your party will recover HP and MP.
The amount of HP recovery will differ based on the price of the room you stay in.
  • You can stay at The Stables for free, however, only your MP will recover. Time may move forward an hour at random here as well.

All other rooms will progress time by the hour, gradually recovering your HP. If the character’s HP is at full while staying in a paid room, the character will “nap” and they will recover MP without progressing time.

  • When staying in a room, if your XP is at a certain level, your character will level up. Leveling up will increase your max HP and change your stats. You may also learn new spells and/or increase the number of times you can use a spell.

Shop
In the Shop you can purchase weapons, armor, and other items. You can also present unidentified items for identification and uncurse certain items.
  • Buying and Selling
Buying and Selling is handled per character. First select which character you would like to buy/sell an item for.
    • Characters can only buy items they have gold for. If the character doesn’t have the required gold, try to “Pool gold” into that character.
    • Some items may have a limited stock. Stock of an item can be increased by finding that item in the maze and selling it here. The same can be done for items that are “Out of stock”.
  • Uncurse
During your adventure, you may become cursed by using unidentified items. If that happens, go to the store and get uncursed. Beware, uncursed items will dissapear from the inventory.
[/b]。

  • Identify
If you find an unidentified item in the dungeon, you can pay gold here to have it identified.

  • Enchant
Depending on the scenario, you may be able to add additional powers to certain items by enchanting them.
  • [/list]

    Temple
A facility in which you can treat characters that have a status effect. Characters who have the Death or Paralyzed status will be sent to the Temple upon returning from the maze.
    • Help Character
Recover any characters afflicted with a status effect. Once you pay a tithe, the healing ritual will begin.
・Characters that are paralyzed or petrified will recover 100% of the time.
・If a dead character fails to recover, they will become ash. If the character’s ash fails to recover, the character will forever be lost.
・When recovering a dead or ash character, the higher the character’s vitality, the higher the chance of them recovering. Older characters will have lower vitality thus giving them a lower chance of recovering.
    • Take Body
Take back a character’s body without treating them. The selected character will be returned to your party. By doing this, you will be able to collect any items or gold they may have, and you may be able to treat the character in the maze using spells.

    • Give Body
Give back a body with a status effect that you took from the temple.

    Castle
In most scenarios, you will be able to find out why your party needs to enter the maze at the castle. You can also trigger the scenario ending by bringing certain items back to the castle.

    Edge of Town
If you would like venture into the maze or create a new character, you should head to the Edge of Town. From there you can also access the Utilities in which you can view the Monster Dictionary and reset your data.
    • Entrance of Maze
Head into the maze with your current party. If you have no one in your party, you will not be able to enter.

    • Resume
If you quit while in the maze, you can resume your adventure using the same party.

    • Training Grounds
You can create characters at the Training Grounds. The details will be explained in the “Character Creation” segment below.

    • Utilities
You can view/change your options and reset your data here. You can also view the monsters that you will encounter in this scenario from the “Monster Dictionary”, and transfer characters from other scenarios using the “Born Again” option.

For example, if a front line character has a short range weapon, they will be able to attack enemies up to two rows away from them, while characters in the rear line with short range weapons, won’t be able to hit any enemies unless it is an ambush.

      Attack from front
      line 5-6
      line 4-3
      line 1-2

      Short
      Middle
      Long

      Attack from rear
      line 5-6
      line 4-3
      line 1-2

      Short
      Middle
      Long

    • Spell Target
Depending on the type and effect of the spell you are using, spells may target one single enemy, a group of enemies, or all enemies at the same time.

    Confirming the commands
After selecting a command for each character, you will be asked to confirm your decision.

    • Fight
Continue the combat phase with the commands you selected.

    • Change Equipment
You can change your equipment before the combat phase. If you have already changed equipment, you will go straight into combat.
・If you switch to a weapon with shorter range, you might not be able to reach the intended target.
    • Take Back
Return to the command select phase.

    • Cancel
Select all commands from the beginning.
    Chest/Reward
If you are victorious in combat you might find a treasure chest. These chests contain gold and items, however, they may also be rigged with a booby trap. Once you open the chest, gold will be split evenly amongst your party members, while items can only be given to one member of your party.
・If all of your party members have a full inventory, Items will stop appearing in chests.
    • Inspect
Inspect to see if the chest is rigged with a trap.
・The Thief has the highest percentage of success rate followed by the Ninja.
    • DIVINE TRAP
A spell used by the Priest, DIVINE TRAP can identify rigged chests at a high percentage.

    • Disarm
Pick and disarm the trap that you suspect the chest to be rigged with.
・Thieves with high Luck and Agility will have a higher chance of disarming traps. Although not as skilled as a thief, the Ninja can also disarm chests.

・If you select the wrong trap to disarm, or if you fail to disarm the trap, it will activate and your character will likely fall victim to its effects. If the character triggering the trap is of high level, there is a higher chance of the trap being a dud.
    • Open
You can open the chest without inspecting it but you run the risk of triggering the trap. Try opening chests with higher level characters to increase the odds of not triggering traps.

    • Leave
      Leave without opening the chest.

      The Results Screen
Most items will be unidentified at first. Unidentified items can be identified at shops for a fee. In most scenarios the Bishop can identify items for free at Taverns and Camps, however, they may not be able to successfully identify higher difficulty items, and they may also fall victim to negative status effects.

    Character Ability Stats
Here we will explain how character ability stats work. knowing oneself is the beginning of wisdom.

    ■Level
The most important ability in the game. Level can be increased if a character with enough XP stays or rests at an Inn. This stat represents a combination of all the abilities that the character has, and shows how experienced the character is in adventuring. A character with higher level possesses “instinct” for adventuring and will influence many factors of the adventure. Characters with higher level can fit multiple hits into one attack.

    ■Age
A combination of physical/mental/spiritual maturity. Your character will age when staying at Inns, when time moves forward due to the magical effects inside the maze, or if the character is stressed due to a number of factors. Stats will start to decrease upon leveling up once the character is old, with 40 being the age when your character will start showing signs of aging.

    ■XP
A stat representing the experience your character has gained during the adventure. XP is obtained mostly by engaging in combat. The amount of XP required to level up will almost always differ depending on the class. If the amount of total XP required to reach the character’s level differs due to special circumstances such as changing classes, you will receive XP including that difference the next time you level up.

    ■G.P.
Stands for Gold Point or Gold in simpler terms. You will receive this when engaging in combat and selling loot at the castle. Depending on the scenario, the actual currency you receive might not be Gold, but the currency will still be displayed as G.P. The amount of G.P. an item or service costs will vary depending on the scenario.

    ■HP
Stands for Hit Points. This stat represents how much of a beating your character can endure before they kick the bucket. Once it reaches 0 your character will die regardless of the severity of damage the character had endured up to that point. This also means that your character will not be affected by how low their HP is until they die. Max HP will rise each time you level up but if the max amount is too high or too low in relation to your level, it may be adjusted accordingly.

    ■AC
Stands for Armor Class. This stat represents how low the percentage is for the enemy to hit a significant strike from physical attacks. All attacks that aren’t significant strikes are seen as a “Miss” and will have no effect on your character. In this game, the strength of your armor and how fast you can evade can mean the same thing. Armor will not lessen the blow of significant strikes so be wary of your remaining HP. The lower this stat is, the better your character will be at negating attacks. You can lower this stat further by equipping certain equipment and using certain spells. Ninjas have the ability to lower this stat in certain situations.

    ■Attributes
A number given to represent each attribute the character has. This number may increase/decrease upon leveling up. The only factor that effects this is age.
    • Strength
Represents your athletic/physical strength. This affects the accuracy and impact of physical attacks.

    • I.Q
Represents your intelligence and memory. Affects a mage’s ability to learn spells and in certain scenarios – their spell damage.

    • Piety
Represents your faith. Affects a Priest’s ability to learn spells and in certain scenarios – their spell damage.

    • Vitality
Represents your endurance and stamina. Affects your max HP amount. If this stat falls under 3 upon leveling up, that character will perish of old age.

    • Agility
Represents your quickness and response time. Affects the order of action and identification/disarming of traps.

    • Luck
Represents how lucky you are. Affects how often traps are duds, and other circumstances that can only be left up to luck.

    ■Immunity
Shows immunity stats gained from equipping certain items. When receiving an attack/spell/breath type that you have immunity for, you will be able to reduce/negate the damage, however, this may not work if there is a major skill difference between you and the enemy.

    ■Spell Resistance Rate
The percentage at which you resist spells. For each type of spell, you will be able to reduce/negate the effects the spell may hold.

    ■Inspect Trap Rate
The percentage of how likely you are to succeed in inspecting a trap. Disarming traps is affected by many factors and uses a completely different percentage. Thieves and Ninjas excel at both and this can be seen by their Inspect Trap Rate.

    ■Spell Usage
Shows the remaining number of spells/max incantations. You can recover this number by resting at facilities such as Inns and triggering certain mechanics in the maze. Max incantations will increase upon leveling up if you are a class that can use spells.

    ■Marks/Rip
Number of enemies slain and number of deaths.
    Character Status Effects
    Status Effects
During your adventure, your character may be affected by a negative status effect. These can range from temporary effects to ones that cannot be undone.
    Temporary
    • Confusion
An effect in which the character becomes confused during combat. You will randomly lose the option to “Cast Spell”, “Use Item”, “Dispell”, or “Hide”. Only lasts until end of combat.

    • Sleep
An effect in which the character falls asleep. Sleeping characters will not be affected by “Confusion”, “Fear”, and “Silence” as they are unconscious. Keep this in mind when you cast multiple spells. Only lasts until end of combat.

    • Silence
An effect that takes away a character’s voice required to cast spells. Characters under this effect will not be able to cast spells. This affects spells contained within items as well. Only lasts until end of combat.

    • Spell Ban
Affects the entire party. An effect that prevents usage of spells within the maze. Affects spells contained within items as well, although it only affects the usage and not the spell’s effect. If you somehow manage to use the spell, the effects of the spell will not be negated. Can be removed if you move around in a place the effect does not influence.

    • Fear
An effect where the character is frozen with fear. Outside of combat, this will prevent the character from performing any actions, and during combat your actions may be cancelled. Only lasts until end of combat.
    Requires Healing
    • Poison
An effect where the character is poisoned. Although there are many types of poison, the one mentioned here will slowly eat away at the character’s health whenever they walk in the maze or consume a turn during combat. If the target’s health is low – it won’t be too hard to kill them with poison. Can be healed by specific spells and events, or by returning to the Castle.

    • Paralysis
An effect where the character becomes paralyzed from a spell or Monster power. Will be very difficult to continue along in this state. Can be healed by specific spells and events, or returning to the Temple.

    • Stone
An effect where the character becomes stone due to a spell or Monster power.. Although still alive, there is not much separating them from death at this state as they are unable to do anything. The only saving grace is that paralyzed characters are easier to revive than dead ones. Can be healed by specific spells and events, or returning to the Temple.

    • Death
An effect where the character has lost its life. Can be revived by specific spells and events, or returning to the Temple. Surviving death is close to a miracle, and the consequences of failure are severe. If you fail to revive a character, they will turn to ash.

    • Ashes
An effect where the character has turned to ash after death or upon death. Occurs on a failed revival, specific traps or events, and certain spell effects. Avoid becoming ash at all costs as it could lead to being Lost. Can be healed by specific spells and events, or returning to the Temple.
    Permanent
    • Lost
Lost forever. Permadeath. Can occur if you jump into “Rocks” without holding the required magical item, if you fail to revive an “ash” character, if your level goes below 0 from the enemy’s “Energy Drain”, or if your Vitality falls below 3 from leveling up. Besides jumping into a “Rock” tile, this can occur randomly when the entire party is wiped out. Characters that are lost will not have names on their grave stone.

Although many things can cause this to happen, there is nothing that can be done to bring the lost back to the land of the living. Their name remains in the Training Grounds as only a memory of their existence. You can delete these characters and add new ones as needed.
    Item Description
Here we will explain how the Item Description screen works in the game.

    • Item Name
The Item’s name (Can be changed when you “Inspect” a character at the Tavern).

    • Kind
The Item type. Depending on the weapon type you may get different messages during combat.

    • Base
The original name of the Item. If you haven’t changed the name of the item, this should be the same as Item Name.

    • Requirements
Requirements to equip the item. Brighter colors mean they can be equipped. Consists of “Race”, “Sex”, “Alignment”, and “Class” and must all be met in order for the character to equip the item.

    • Damage
The amount of damage the item can inflict on the enemy. A sum is displayed at the top, and the actual number (range of possible damage) is displayed below. Only displays the default damage and does not show additional effects provided by spells or character abilities.

    • Range
The range that the weapon can reach. There are 3 ranges – Short, Medium, and Long.

    • Equip
Where you equipped the item. Depending on the scenario, you can have Main and Sub slots. You can replace your shield with a sub weapon and use 2 weapons instead of one. Some weapons require the usage of both main and sub slots.

    • AC
How much the equipped item affects the Armor Class.

    Enchantment
Magical abilities that the item possesses. Most abilities will take effect upon equipping the item, and the can make use of these abilities even in situations in which Spells are blocked. On the other hand, items that need to be “used” such as medicine, are subject to effects that block spell usage. Depending on the scenario and item used, it may break (change) when used. Be careful when and where you use these items. Some items may not have viewable descriptions and categories, however, this does not mean that they do not exist in the scenario.

    Special Power (SP)
A special enchantment that only specific items have. If you “Equip” this item at camp, you can choose to activate the SP. Depending on the scenario and item, this can have devastating effects so be careful when activating them. As with other enchantments, the item may break (change) when the SP is activated. In certain scenarios, you might not be able to see the SP description even if you can view the enchantments.

    Useful Shortcut Keys
The best way to efficiently go about on your adventure is to learn the shortcut keys. The following should help you on your journey.
    • Return to the Title Screen (Soft Reset)
      Keyboard : Ctrl+F1
      Controller : Dpad up+RT

    • Skip combat messages
      Keyboard : A or ← key
      Controller : Dpad left

    • Switch to a different character in the “Character Inspect” screen
    • Switch the character to shop items for in the Shop
      Keyboard : A/D or ←/→ key
      Controller : Dpad left/right

When you lose an important item!
As you continue your adventure, you may accidently discard a key item, lose a character that had a key item, or somehow lose a key item when your party is defeated.

If that happens, don’t panic. You might be able to obtain that item from where you initially picked it up. You will, however, need to re-play any challenges that you faced in order to get the item. If you can’t find the item in the original location, try looking for a “trash can” in the maze. If one exists, your item might be in there.

If worst comes to worst, you can choose “Auto Map Clear” from the “Utilities” menu to reset all of the event flags in the maze. Use this as a last resort as it will literally reset everything.

    The effects of magic light
The Priest spells “Brightness” and “Magic Light” summon a magical light to illuminate the halls of the maze. In addition to being able to see further, this light will illuminate doors that will otherwise be invisible. This will allow you to pass through these doors.

If you’ve run out of places to explore, try using a magic light to find hidden areas.

    Door types in the maze
You will find many types of doors including the invisible ones mentioned above. There are 3 maintypes of doors.

    • Normal Doors
A very normal door. Can be opened without any restrictions.

    • A Normal Locked Door
Will display the message “Locked” if you try to go through. If you investigate the door, Thieves and Ninjas and Mages using unlock spells will be able to attempt unlocking it. It may not be possible to open these doors through other means, and failing to unlock the door will raise the unlocking difficulty for that door for a while.

    • Doors that have unlock requirements set by the Scenario
      Example :
      Steel Bars
Doors with no key hole and display a message “Locked from the other side”. Once unlocked you can pass through freely.

      Secret Doors
While walking you may “feel a presence”. Try inspecting a wall in these areas to find secret doors. Once found, you can pass through these doors freely.
You will find more doors such as ones that require a specific item to unlock, ones that require a switch to be pressed, and ones where the player character will need to meet certain requirements.
