Description
This will not work anymore due to Sawyer overhauls, it was fun while it lasted and thank you everyone!

ABOUT
Are you tired of standard gauge trains running on endless flat bridges over water? If so, this is the add-on for you! This narrow gauge railroad connects the Dean Hall mine to Sawyer North Harbor, with a station at Holt Town. It uses a custom three block gauge in optimized segments, while the trains use wheels to follow the track rather than sliders. Both greatly improve performance.

FEATURES
  • The add-on spawns with some stock and two locomotives to get you started
  • Yards at both ends of the line with passing sidings to bring the locomotive to the other end of the train
  • Detailed engine sheds at North Harbor so you can keep your locomotives running smoothly
  • Stations at North Harbor, Holt Town, and the Dean Hall Mine
  • A transfer bridge at the harbor to load cars onto barges
  • Lights, gates and wig-wags at the crossings so you don't get slowed down by paperwork by hitting a car
  • Transport coal from the mine when using this add-on alongside the narrow gauge version of Enhanced Resource Trading
  • No floating track anywhere along the line

SETUP
  • Start a new save and in the add-ons menu select Sawyer Narrow Gauge Railroad
  • It's recommended to disable default cargo containers as some of the track overlaps their spawn area, but if you really want to keep them then it's possible to just push some containers off the tracks
  • Enable Enhanced Resource Trading for Narrow Gauge if you want to be able to trade coal (the normal version will not work) and be sure to disable default resource trading
FAQ
  • How is performance?
Performance is quite good for the amount of track and detailing included. In singleplayer it runs at around 62 fps with maximum physics detail. In multiplayer it can take clients a long time (10+ minutes) to fully load the track, but once everything is loaded it runs fine for all players (at least through our testing). As such, I would say that it's possible to run in multiplayer but it's not exactly multiplayer friendly.

  • Is this compatible with NSO?
No, not at all. It will not work if you have NSO, and through some testing we have found that if you previously had NSO installed it can be problematic.

  • Can I make my own train?
Yes! The templates can be found here.

  • My game periodically freezes when moving along the track. Is this normal?
Yes this is. It's just the next tile/segment of track loading in. It should only take a couple seconds max. (Keep active blocks would just make performance worse)

  • My vehicle gets stuck trying to cross the tracks. What should I do?
The crossings have xml edited blocks to make them appear complete, but they have the same collision as the rest of the track so that the trains' guide wheels don't get stuck. To avoid getting stuck, try approaching the crossing with more speed.

  • Why don't I have the coal trading assets that are in some of the pictures?
The coal trading is part of the Enhanced Resource Trading for Narrow Gauge add-on, which is separate in case your computer struggles to run the track.

  • Do I need a modded workbench to spawn trains?
No, you can spawn trains at the default boat spawn area as long as you carefully position them so that they spawn on the transfer bridge. If they slide off the bridge I would suggest raising the bridge slightly and increasing your physics detail.

MORE INFO
  • It's a good idea to keep under 35 mph on the track, and go slower around curves
  • Feedback is appreciated - leave a like if you enjoy using it
  • Please do not re-upload
CREDITS
First of all, I want to give a HUGE shoutout to the entire EOS staff team for their contributions and enthusiasm surrounding this project. It wouldn't have been half as good without them. More specifically:
  • Jimmy Swaggy for making stock, planning, and testing
  • rooikat for the Holt Town station and testing
  • JB for making the engine sheds at North Harbor
  • Fabian for the bridge design
  • jj for making stock
  • juicebox for coming in clutch and making some last-minute stock

Additionally:
  • MauveTheWolf for allowing me to modify their add-on and replicate their style, as well as sharing xml files
  • Sketch the Scientist for inspiring this project, as well as creating the train/track system that this one is derived from
  • I'm pretty sure one of the locomotives that spawns with this uses an ECU by Uran_Wind

#Bring narrow gauge back! lol

Out of curiously, how difficult would it be to reconfigure the tracks to fit the new sawyers island? Cause this would be really cool to have running again. : )

Yes that's true, it's just not really useful anymore as standard gauge lines go right past the mine now. I have been considering doing a lunar railroad connecting the Speyguy Entrance to somewhere (just for kicks and giggles).

I've noted that on the matter of track clipping in the ground (I don't know about things like code but hear me out), there isn't much issue with it, so if someone (more skilled than me) were to do some minor fixes, we could get it back and running. just saying...

since Sawyer was updated there isn’t really a need anymore, although I have thought about doing a shorter section from the mine to the nearby tracks or maybe some arid locations. For now at least I’d rather focus on standard gauge train projects. (I also still have to update my signal collection)
