Setup portal2_dlc3

This guide will show you how to setup dlc3 so you can add custom content to your game

Why do you need dlc3

portal2_dlc3 is a way of adding content into portal 2 Why can't you just put it into the portal 2? folder Well you could, Unless you wanted to replace a texture, or a model. If you where to put a file in with a name that is the same to something in a .vpk The .vpk will overwrite it. so you can make your own .vpk to overwrite the file you wanted

Setup

First you are going to open the folder where you will place dlc3, ether you can go to your steam directory\Steam\steamapps\common\Portal 2 or you can open steam and Right click on portal 2 Manage > Browse local files












You should now Be in The file explorer, Next you will want to create a folder named portal2_dlc3






Now you want to open portal2_dlc2 and copy gameinfo.txt to the portal2_dlc3 folder you made.

Setting up the .vpk

Now how do you put your assets into a .vpk, Well first in portal2_dlc3 you are going to make a folder called pak01_dir. pak01_dir is where you are going to add your model, materials and other folders inclued in the assets you downloaded.

Now there are two ways of packing the .vpk
1. You open the /bin folder in the portal 2 directory and drag pak01_dir folder into vpk.exe and it will make pak01_dir.vpk


2. Or the one I find easier, open the /bin folder in the portal 2 directory and right click on vpk.exe and press Create Shortcut.
Drag the shortcut into your portal2_dlc3 folder, Then you can drag your pak01_dir into the shortcut without having to open portal2/bin every-time
