In game there's a mod manager under the extras in the main menu. Any mods must be enabled before they do anything.

How do you make the mod turn on

add a option to turn it on and off

It is always active after enabling the mod. Though, there's a chance that this won't work with the latest Thrive version as I don't test this often at all.

Adding chemoreceptors doesn't seem to change the behavior at all, I witnessed it repeatedly ignore patches of glucose (and iron when it had rusticyacin) and starve to death even though it had chemoreceptors that were detecting the resources. Didn't seem like it was going for anything else in particular either, it was just wandering aimlessly.

Maybe the AI is just dumb, but that seems particularly dim even for a single-cell organism...

You can add a chemoreceptor to add small vision range to AI cells. Otherwise they aren't seeing where compounds are like the player is allowed to see, instead they use an approach called run and tumble to try to run into compounds and then start circling around an area that had compounds. This is just a quick mod demonstration example, so I won't be spending any time trying to make the AI smarter while the player is watching. Of course it is possible that there's something weird going on but I'm nearly 100% certain that all the other AI cells do the exact same things as when the AI is told to take over the player's cell.

Doesn't seem like this is a problem with the mod itself, as all it does is make the game's cell AI control the player's cell as well, but my cell is being incredibly dumb. It will go in a straight line past many useful resources, and after a certain point will simply spin around in a circle until it runs out of energy and dies. I haven't witnessed any of the other cells doing such weird things though.

Great idea, but it really needs to be less actively stupid when it comes to headbutting iron forever and seemingly deliberately dodging useful resources

can you update it ?
