Description
Marooned [ROOM 277/278]

I took a break from mapping for being able to concentrate on my studies, but during the preparation for the exams it helped me to find some distraction from the stress of learning and was a good support for mental recovery freeing my mind. I really often see it as some kind of meditation which shuts out the whole world around me.
Thanks to Shakky for his 'unique' ninja-way of finding exploits and playtesting and josepezdj (Jose) for his keen eye spotting some visual issues.

I’m just about to map some kind of a shakky-proof map. It’s some kind of a cage in the center of a room surrounded by lethal laser fields and no portable areas around and he spawns – yes, you guessed right, inside the cage :P
Difficulty? I really don’t know. All I can say is that I have sloth-like reflexes and am no ninja type of player at all. The puzzles are quite basic and have only a few ‘new’ elements which are hopefully interesting enough to enjoy this map.

KNOWN ISSUES (so far):
___________________

- Although I've added some autosaves where I thought they might be appropriate and helpful it might be counterproductive to quicksave at the wrong time. Usually you can’t avoid such things - it's often not preventable due to the gameplay/puzzle structure/logic – However that’s a common problem with puzzles in general.
- You might encounter some serious issues when no-clipping outside the map.
Nope, no built-in no-clipping protection but probably caused by the heavy use (or abuse, if you prefer) of detail brushwork. I know it’s expensive but the way I like to map…
You shouldn't no-clip anyways ;) - It's like walking straight on stage and examining a magician's sleeves or peeping behind the set :)

Update Version sp_marooned_v1_3.bsp:
- Some attempts at further optimization and minor visual changes (signage frames were missing)
- Soundloops stopped after quicksave/quickload in the 2nd room (Thanks Recai!)

Surprisingly original map! Both in the logic, skill difficulty, and aesthetics. Thanks for making!

Extremely beautifull map ! A bit too difficult for me (i am used to play only "logic" puzzles, without any tricky movement, portalization and flight°; Thanks for creating

It's the 2nd time I load this map and quit before doing anything, because of the impossibility to know what does what (after looking and walking around). Signage is too confusing, and turns the solution's planification into a guessing and memory game.
It's not a thumbs down for me because there's indeed a lot of work here, in the visuals, and regarding comments, in logic too, but I give up because in my case the only difficulty is in obscurity.

Is that orange fizzler known as something like the Knockback Field or the Trampoline Field?

Excellent map, I was about to give up quite a few times but I stuck with it and pushed through. MAN that's some tricky puzzles, great job. Only downside is that it does requier a few ninja-moves, as in shooting portals in mid air and stuff like that, but it's only a few moves so it's not a major problem.

Just spent about half an hour on this map and feel stupid because I couldn't get past the first part of the chamber. I saw the first dot above the square platform and worked out what the button does, but I have no idea where to go from there. There isn't any way for me to build up momentum to fling off the portal surface near the light bridge, and I can't see the second dot anywhere. If you could tell me how to start the chamber it would be appreciated.

Beautiful map, but as has been said before, it doesn't communicate what the buttons do well enough. The second time I figured out what everything did, but the first time I spent a lot of time distracted going back cube buttons that have permenent effects because I didn't know what they did and thought they might still need a cube to press them. Also, I smuggled a regular cube from the first room to the second and had a spare reflector cube in the second room. Both of them escaped to the elevator.
