Key strategic elements to consider when playing Visage:

Visage is fairly weak until level 6. Try to kill him before he gets stronger with his Familiars.
Familiars are fairly squishy when Visage is not around.
With the Sepulchre or Death Toll facets, use Familiars to control runes, stack camps, gank lanes even without your hero, drag and cut creepwaves.
You can summon fresh Familiars to be able to chain 4 stuns on opponents.
With Aghanim`s Scepter, your mobility and pick off potential further increases.
Pick up Aghanim`s Shard later in the game as it allows you to survive jumps, buy time, and provides another stun.
With Boots of Travel, you can Town Portal Scroll around the map to join fight or split push and bring your Familiars to you with the alternate cast of Summon Familiars.

Main skill and item combo order: Silent as the Grave => Scythe of Vyse => Grave Chill => Attack => Soul Assumption

Power level during the game:

Laning phase: Medium (1.6 out of 3)
Mid Game: High (2.4 out of 3)
Late Game: High (2.3 out of 3)
Very late game: High (2.1 out of 3)
