Key strategic elements to consider when playing Broodmother:

Broodmother is weak in most matchups until level 6. Focus on last hitting and sustaining health until you have Spawn Spiderlings.
Make sure not to feed spiderlings away as that greatly affects your farming speed and kill threat.
Once you have built up an army of spiderlings, try to play on the opponents side of the map as much as you can.
Place Observer Ward and Sentry Ward in the enemy jungle so you feel comfortable playing there.
If you are feeling endangered, let your spiderlings farm while staying hidden nearby in the tree line or a cliff under one of your Webs with the hero.
Broodmother can take Roshan down fairly early. Move spiderlings out when Roshan is about to clap.
Consider using a few of your spiderlings as scouts around the map.
