Main Weapons
Your primary weapons in GTFO.

These weapons fill the 1st slot in your inventory and are intended to be used against weaker enemies.
Typically these weapons carry a good supply of ammo and when refilling them using ammo packs you will ALWAYS recover approx 20% max ammo.

Against stronger enemies they typically lack the raw damage to stop them and will use up large amounts of ammo to get the kill.

For large threats, use your SPECIAL weapon (unless its empty)
Shelling Pistol (Always available)

The basic pistol of GTFO. As a default weapon it is always available to players.
Actually deals high damage per shot, the 3rd highest of any primary in R6.

Features low recoil, fast reload speed, a large ammo pool of 165 total rounds and clear iron sights. Its only downside is being semi automatic.

An extremely efficient gun that rewards accurate shooting. One of the best default weapons in the game for beginners and veterans alike.

Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
SMG (Always Available)

The SMG is the default close quarters weapon featuring large ammo pool (about 400 max), low recoil, clean reflex sight, high fire rate, and rapid reloads.

Unlike the Machine Pistol the SMG is always available, has higher base damage and a slightly longer effective range.

A favourite of speed runners, quickly eliminates small enemies at close range and in a pinch can maybe finish off a giant.
Assault Rifle (Always Available)

The basic Assault Rifle of GTFO.

Its a good all rounder. Good ammo pool (around 340) Good damage. Good effective range. Good clear red reflex sight. Good fire rate. Low recoil.

Always available. Always reliable. Newbies and Veterans alike cannot go wrong with this weapon.

Quite possibly the most perfectly balanced gun in the game.
Dedicated Marksman Rifle (Always Available)

Packing a 2x T-scope the DMR is the only truly long range primary weapon on offer.

With basic damage 2nd only to the HEL revolver and a gigantic effective range of 50 meters! (most rooms in the game are no where near this big) The DMR will reward accurate headshots on small sleepers with instant kills.

Of course this long range power comes at a price.

At close range you are practically defenceless. Heavy recoil, low ammo pool (85 rounds), weak body shot damage and a magnified scope make the DMR poorly equipped to deal with small strikers...the most common enemy in the game.

Also the headshot damage is not enough to take on giant enemies, rapidly depleting your limited ammo reserves. Your secondary weapon choice will be critical to your survival when using the DMR.

Ultimately the DMR is a very situational weapon and somewhat of a meme in the GTFO community.

O P I N I O N S
Personally i feel the DMR has far to many downsides and harshly punishes inexperienced players who take it over the basic pistol.
HEL Revolver (Rundown Specific)

The HEL revolver has the highest base damage per shot of any primary weapon available in R6.

Not only does this weapon have a large ammo pool of 100 rounds, it is pin point accurate when aiming and, like all HEL weapons, has the unique ability to penetrate targets for full damage...friend or foe (so don't hit your team by mistake) The iron sights are clear and clean.

The downsides of all this power are a heavy recoil, a short effective range (damage starts to fall off rapidly beyond 10 meters) and with only 8 rounds in the chamber extra care must be taken not to miss or be overrun by groups of enemies while reloading.

Currently the HEL revolver is the only primary weapon available that can penetrate multiple targets. Much harder to use than the basic pistol but in the right situations, utterly annihilates groups of enemies.
Machine Pistol (Rundown Specific)

The Machine Pistol has the lowest damage per shot of any primary weapon, however it also has the highest fire rate, magazine size (50) and ammo pool (nearly 550 rounds) Its recoil is very light, the iron sights are simply a clean dot.

Holding the trigger will dump its magazine in just under 2 seconds, shredding any small enemies on top of your team but its low damage struggles to take down giants.
Completely useless for targets over 5 meters away this gun is specifically designed for point blank engagements.

The extreme rate of fire causes it to "stagger" and stun lock sleepers of any size. Allowing a steady handed user to slow waves of enemies down and help keep the team safe from hordes.

A great support weapon for close combat. A long range secondary weapon is highly recommended to compensate for the Machine Pistols flaws.
Bullpup Rifle (Rundown Specific)

The Bullpup is a combination of SMG fire rate and Assault Rifle damage/range.

Featuring one of the highest fire rates of any primary weapon paired with good damage, almost zero recoil and a yellow triangle scope. The Bullpup is a very strong weapon that will effortlessly eliminate any sleeper in seconds.

However this causes it to rapidly consume its ammo pool (350 max), also its reload animation takes slightly longer than any other primary leaving you vulnerable in prolonged battles.

Use it in short controlled bursts to deal serious damage...and preserve your limited ammunition.
Carbine (Rundown Specific)

The basic SMG in 4 round burst configuration.

This makes the Carbine a more precise weapon than the SMG, with almost zero recoil...However if you do miss, you are going to be losing a lot of ammo.

If the default SMG doesn't "feel" right to you, try the Carbine.

(Personally i don't like the burst but this one is down to personal preference)
Burst Rifle (Rundown Specific)

The default Assault Rifle in 3 round burst mode with a blue reflex scope.

Much like the Carbine, this weapon will be personal preference. Burst mode makes it harder to use at close range but improves your long range accuracy.

(Personally i don't use this weapon, standard full auto fire is far more versatile than fixed bursts but its your preference)
Sawed-Off Shotgun (Rundown Specific)

A point blank range boom stick. The only shotgun available as a primary weapon.

The triple barrelled Sawed Off is totally unique. With a wild pellet spread its effective range is 1inch (2.5cm) but it will instantly kill all small enemies at this range.

With damage potential high enough to kill a scout with a headshot...although if you are getting that close to them you really should just use your melee weapon.

Giant enemies also take good damage from the sawed off but again, you are putting yourself in great danger getting so close to a giant sleeper.

Its a fun weapon with clear iron sights (not that it needs aiming) 50 max ammo and strong recoil. Not very practical but not as unforgiving as the DMR.
Special Weapons
The guns that fill your 2nd inventory slot.

Weapons in this category are intended to deal with the larger threats you will encounter.
For the most part that means they will deal big damage and have low ammo pools.

Anytime you use an ammo pack you recover approx 30% max for secondary weapons IN ADDITION to the 20% refilled on your main. Any excess ammo is lost forever.

A pro tip is to try keep you ammo pool balanced, every 20% you use on your main try to use 30% on your secondary. This helps your team get the most out of every ammo pack.
Pump Shotgun (Always Available)

One standard issue no nonsense pump action shotgun.

Holds 28 shells max, clear reflex sight, deals very high damage but only at point blank range where all the pellets will hit.

A strong weapon capable of slaying giants and groups of small strikers but dangerous to use because of its low effective range, slow reload animation and fire rate.

Also be aware that after you reload, there is a 1-2 second delay after the "pump" animation before you can fire this weapon again. Bug or not, this delay will get you killed if you don't expect it.
Revolver (Always Available)

A straight six shooter.

An odd special weapon, the revolver only deals "high" damage on head shots. Which will instantly kill all small enemies and will tickle large ones.

Hold around 60 bullets, has heavy recoil per shot, clean iron sights and a good effective range. This weapon excels at sniping small sleepers. While its not particularly effective against giants it does have a good ammo pool letting you fan the hammer when needed.
Sniper Rifle (Always Available)

Unlike the DMR this is the real marksman's rifle.

Capable of instantly killing any giant with a head shot at any distance the sniper rifle specialises in dealing with dangerous ranged enemies which populate the deeper missions.

While it only carries around 20 shots max, every one of those shots should be a head shot kill. Body shots and misses will cost you dearly.

Utterly useless at close range because of its 2.5x scope, high recoil and 3 round magazine.

Your main weapon choice needs to compensate for this.
Choke Mod Shotgun (Rundown Specific)

An interesting variation of the pump shotgun.

Has a vastly longer effective range, tight cone of fire and is semi automatic letting you shoot as fast as you need.

The choke mod can kill any giant in less than 1 second at a safe distance thanks to being semi automatic.

The downside to this is you will quickly burn ammo (24 max) and you will be reloading a lot.

Personally i love this weapon but it struggles at close ranges with its tighter pellet cone and tiny 4 shell magazine. Prioritise your targets.
Scattergun (Rundown Specific)

A new weapon for R6. Already nerfed in a quick fix update due to its outrageously high close range damage.

The quick nerf reduced its max ammo down to 14 rounds and reduced the damage by approx 40%

Yet still nothing beats this weapon for point blank damage. At 0 distance the scattergun will instantly kill ALL non boss enemies/team mates. Giving you 14 shots for 14 kills.

However the weapons 0 effective range will put you in great danger trying to score the big hit. If you miss both shots you will have to deal with a long reload animation.

Honestly the nerf was only to punish speed runners as they used the scattergun to 2 shot bosses...but its also pointless as the booster crystal system allows you to stack damage buffs that go over 40% letting you 2 shot bosses again.
Machinegun (Rundown Specific)

A 50 round drum fed machinegun with large ammo pool of nearly 300 max.

Somewhat situational the machinegun gives you the ability to hold back large waves of weak enemies solo if needed.

Has a wonky floating holographic sight, moderate recoil, long reload animation and a half second "charge up" (don't ask why, only the devs know)

If you are facing large numbers of small enemies a player using this weapon can keep shooting while the rest of the team are reloading. Not very effective against giants but fires fast enough to stun lock them.

Think of it like the basic assault rifle but with extended magazine...just remember to factor in the short "charge up" before you start shooting.
HEL Gun (Rundown Specific)

The medium sized version of the HEL Revolver.

All HEL class weapons penetrate targets, friend or foe, for FULL damage.

Against single targets the HEL gun isn't very effective, it takes 2 body shots to kill a small enemy...however, against large groups this weapon is unmatched.

Featuring a clear devil red scope, 9 round magazine, low recoil and 0.1 second charge up the HEL gun makes short work of crowds. Easily able to kill 2-4 giants at the same time via penetrating shots.

Very deadly in the right situations. Somewhat underrated weapon.

Heavy Assault Rifle (Rundown Specific)

Updated from Rundown 4 this weapon has been moved to the special pool and features an improved triangular reflex sight + buffed damage.

With a slow fire rate, heavy recoil and low ammo pool of around 150 this special assault rifle can chew through ammo while hitting nothing but air if you simply hold the trigger down.

Best used in short bursts to control the hard recoil this weapon is capable of eliminating any target at medium/close range. The damage is high enough to kill small enemies in 1-2 hits and giants with 15-20.

Fills a similar role to the machinegun but is much easier to handle thanks to a lower rate of automatic fire and no "charge up" delay.

Just take care with the ammo reserves! The heavy assault rifle quickly empties on giants and hordes.

not a meta moaner nor do I enjoy solo runners who just kite Big Strikers for 2 hours as it isn't skill. The point was the inaccuracy in this "guide".

You claim two weps are exactly the same, minus one difference, then ignore every other difference. A 0.17 difference is substantial as most guns have a <0.5 dmg difference. You're also ignoring the range difference which dictates how far you get full dmg on enemies.

You're claiming the guide isn't about numbers, yet you give numbers. The guide says the Sawed-Off has a 2.5cm effective range; completely made up. All shotguns, excluding the Choke, have a range of 4m or 400cm....400 vs 2.5 is quite the difference.

Not a DMR fan but it doesn't excuse lies saying it kills all smalls with a headshot; or saying the Sniper or Scatter kills all non-bosses w/ 1-shot; or saying the HAR kills smalls in 1-2 shots.

You're brushing off being called out for putting out a bad guide with incorrect info as being salty or moaning.

Urgh *rolls eyes* a meta moaner. :steamsalty: :emofdr:

I tip my hat to solo runners! Kudos to those who can spend 4 hours kiting giants and exploiting doors...that's also no use for a general guide line to GTFO is it?

Butt seriously. Below is a spread sheet link if you wanted numbers. In game that HUGE 0.17 difference between burst/assault rifle damage is less of a concern than being locked into burst fire+blue holo sight for 60 mins. In my humble opinion.

Also the Carbine is utterly inferior to the SMG but some people like that and i respect their right to be make mistakes. Breaking limbs causes any over kill bullets to miss. SMG is at worst 11 shot kill, Carbine is 12-16.

As has been typed multiple times:

Just use the guns you enjoy the handling of and you are more likely to win. If a combination is not working, mix it up.

If you have anything else to add feel free, if you were looking for an updated number list maybe try the official discord.

*smh* so much incorrect information here that I need to post seven comments due to Steam limiting character length... and I'm still not covering all the misinformation.

The Carbine isn't just the SMG in a 4-round burst nor is the Burst Rifle the Assault Rifle in a 3-round burst.

The Carbine and SMG do share a lot of stats but do have differences like range, precision multi, hipfire spread, shot/burst delay; you can actually unload the Carbine faster than the SMG.
Saying it for the Burst Rifle though is even more insane as they basically only share a magazine size. The Burst Rifle does more dmg, 2x the range, better precision multi in exchange for lower total ammo and longer reload.

The Bullpup Rifle is very strong but your description of it being a mix of the SMG and Assault Rifle using dmg/range is completely incorrect...
It's dmg is just slightly worse than the Assault Rifle and its range is equal to both of the other's combined (5m +10m = 15m). Its recoil is terrible from the hip, forcing you to always ADS. The main drawback, its reload speed, isn't bad because it is the longest but because it is the only one that can't be anim cancelled (swaping the gun once its actually reloaded to skip the rest of the animation). Often this cuts out roughly 50% of the reload time. This is one of the reasons the HEL Revolver is so popular. Despite the claim its reload speed is a downside, it finishes reloading early into the animation allowing you to reload it in about 1s.

DMR is a meme in the GTFO community just not or what you claim... It's possibly the best main for giants, with two shots breaking a limb. It's popular for solo/speedrunners. It does NOT reward headshots on small sleepers with insta-kills; THIS is the source of it being a meme. Shooters it will kill with 1 headshot, but not strikers. It deals 7.5 dmg, strikers have 20 HP with a 3x headshot multi which should be enough but you need to factor in the precision multi for headshots so its 7.5x3x0.87 = 19.6011. Leaving the striker with less than 0.4 HP enough that even a single Auto-Sentry bullet will kill it. That is the meme; that and the nasty-ass smear on the scope for no reason.

The effective range for the Sawed-Off is NOT 2.5cm (where are you even getting these numbers!?) all shotguns, excluding the Choke-Mod, have an effective range of 4m. All shotguns also have no hipfire spread. It has the same cone-size as the Shotgun so idk where you're getting this idea it has some crazy spread. All shotguns also don't need to headshot a Scout to kill it, a backshot does the job just as well.

Sniper Rifle does NOT kill ANY giant to the head. There is a striker variant that doesn't take bonus headshot damage, so the giant version won't be affected by the precision dmg either (it will only take the 40.01 dmg; 1/3rd of its HP).
Feb 22, 2022 @ 4:00am
The Scattergun does NOT kill ALL non-boss enemies nor does it need to be point blank. again. shotgun. 4 METER range. Even for the lower 120 HP giants you need to be very precise as the gun deals 128.32 dmg; miss more than 2 of 32 pellets and the giant won't die. And the higher 150 hP giants obv won't die unless you get a lot of head or backshot dmg.

Why the Scattershot was able to 2-shot bosses at release is wrong. At the time, the Scattershot did so much damage that it bugged out how damage is applied to bosses. Bosses lose HP equal to the HP lost by their tumors. If a tumor has 1 HP and is dealt 50 dmg, the 49 overkill dmg is lost and only 1 dmg is dealt. The Scattershot broke the system allowing all 32 pumped into 1 tumor to deal several times the tumor's HP in dmg to the boss.
Feb 22, 2022 @ 3:59am
This wasn't a nerf it was a bug fix, the dmg nerf was a separate thing later. So saying it being pointless since boosters can return the gun to pre-nerf dmg and 2-shot bosses is wrong. It can do this but only by all 64 pellets perfectly hitting the tumors to spread the damage evenly w/o overkill dmg; you can also be struck by lightning twice in a row IRL doesn't mean you should expect to.

Heavy Assault Rifle does 5.01 dmg and strikers have 20 HP, shooters have 30 HP, and giants have 120 or 150 HP, so it will never kill a small enemy with 1 shot (2 only possible with head or backshots) nor will 15-20 shots kill a giant (only with several headshots).
Feb 22, 2022 @ 3:59am
I could keep going *sigh* but I'd rather not.

I'd advise NOT giving advice without knowing the stats and using and experiencing the guns yourself for at least a couple runs.

A lot of this info is detrimental to new players, especially since there is no true tier-list for guns. Each player on a team fills a role: high priority target damage (Revolver/Shotgun/Choke for certain levels and Sniper/Scattershot for giant/boss heavy levels), wave grinder (deal damage to groups of smalls during alarms; Machinegun and HEL Gun), wave stagger-er (prevent enemies from being able to melee your team; SMG and Machinegun), and fill (typically the Biotracker guy as they need to keep marking enemies so if a say a giant shows up and needs to be sniped they can't be purely focused on that and ready to snap onto its head; job is to help whatever role needs it; HAR is great for this).

Still even roles need to be flexible on what they take depending on the mission.
