Castle Triggerstein - v1.0

Description
Map Pitch :
Well met, stranger, and welcome to Castle Triggerstein!
Lost in the foggy highlands of an alternate universe Scotland, this ancient place surrounded by lush gardens is filled with mystery. Strange events keep happening on their own, shifting the lanes and corridors through the walls and with complete disregard with the laws the physics. Time itself seems to have little meaning in this place.
But whatever angry spirits or forgotten technology might be the cause of those strange happenings, they certainly, in their madness, remained true to their Scotish roots. For you see... there is a golf course in there!
...Will you dare to play it?

Features :
  • 18 holes with a medium difficulty level.
  • Lots of opportunities to score easily under par, but few hole in one oppotunities.
  • Uses mild post processing effects to create a "rainy day" feel
  • Very reliant on Ekomanic's "castle set" of 3D models. Special thanks to him
  • Most holes start with triggered events that will modify the holes in front of your eyes
  • Fog and time of day change for each hole, giving a new feel to the castle.
  • Some events also occur during a hole, but not that many as I didn't want unfair surprises
  • Music is "Royal Baroque" from free music site Peritune
  • I edited this music to be slower and lower pitch, so it works better for a golf game
  • Machinery sounds done by me (by mixing free levers and train sounds)

My Comments :
This map kind of has a long story. It started as an idea for a map "where you can see holes shift in front of you", which sounds quite neat on paper. A castle theme seemed appropriate for that, but as I built the course, I realized the walls and doors were hiding a lot of the transforming that was happening.
So I scaled down on those transformations and this led me to start disliking the map. I stopped working on it for weeks. But when I came back to it eventually I realized the map wasn't that bad. ...It was just something different than what I originally envisioned.

Even though the holes shift and transform as I wanted, the map was no longer about showing off using that. It became more about making a cool looking castle and exploring it, with the triggers making sure the player can only access a specific place at once.

I think I have done better maps in the past, but it's by trying things that eventually something better happens. ...Just not this time. And even if the feeling of awe I have initially hoped for is not here, the map is still enjoyable. And that's the most important.
...And who knows. I have seen on previous maps than the public's opinion can differ from mine, so maybe this map will turn out to be better liked than I am expecting. Wait and see I guess!

Special thanks to Ekomanic for sharing the "castle parts" 3D models with the community.
Without him, this map would have been impossible to make in this way.

As usual, I tested the map a lot, but the possibility of problems remaining still exists. As long as you report bugs and frustrations with some amount of decency, I will do my best to solve those issues ASAP.

Hope you have fun!
