How to optimize cannon Elevation Rate

Getting the most Elevation Rate out of your cannon.

Balancing the gun

The in-game description is rather vague, so I thought to write a short guide to clear things up.

It's actually very simple. You just have to adjust the barrel until the blue bar (which represents the barrel's center of mass offset) disappears, or as short as possible.

If the blue bar is behind the mantlet, increase the length and/or thickness of your barrel/base, or decrease them if the blue bar is in front of the mantlet. Shorter/thinner barrel isn't always better, you have to find the perfect balance.

For example, this 100mm gun with max elevation torque have enough barrel length, but the center of mass is too behind the mantlet.


So we increase its length and thickness, shortening the blue bar until it is gone.


The gun is now perfectly balanced, elevation rate increased from 3.13 to 4.08, while the longer barrel also slightly increased penetration and accuracy.

The Panzer Kampfwagen VIII Maus has a really big turret for a reason, the body is too big, so the cannon needs some elevation and depression, i think it would have been a lot better if it didn't meet with a bomb on the face.
Sadly the downside of being in a huge tank, thats why they are making modern tanks have a lower profile than a Panther D and more effective than said tank.

this is kinda old and a late reply but the depression thing is just a bug, reloading the save should fix it

@venterandres sounds like your barrel's Center of Mass is behind the pivot point, and you have a negative Elevation rate. The rearward CoM makes the end of the barrel want to point up (think of a lever) and the negative elevation rate means the motor or crank that is adjusting the elevation can't work fast enough to offset the weight. Try making your barrel longer, thicker near the muzzle, or reducing the counter-weight if you are using one.

My barrel is automatically pointing up, I have no idea why the moment I spawn the barrel just starts rotating up

If you can't move the barrel you won't be able to depress. Have you tried giving your cannon a counterweight?

also despite the game saying i have -5 to -20 degrees of gun depression i can't depress the gun, I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the gun mantlet but since it's a super heavy and agile design I'm able to make the torque out
