No, it was named greenland simply to encourage immigration to the colony.

The Danish word "Greenland" means "grassland" or "Grünland" in German. It used to be warmer and it is getting colder or warmer... according to climate change ideologues. Although other researchers say it's not true that it's getting warmer... but colder.
