Boats and Ships

Okay, adds a Fishing Boat so far. And a ... hover vehicle?

And if anyone has any cool boat designs, or sketchfab links or something? Send them over, maybe we can add more boats and ships lol.
it could be that there is multiple boats/ships for sale in the future. hense the name..

There's a starting scenario - Ship Captain, a ship captain at sea, with one ship. Remember to pick up your captain before you sail off, cos he's swimming beside the boat..
And Speeder. a fellow and his speeder airboat thing.

Then, the other option, This NPC "Retired Sailor" spawns, in Most seaside towns. the ones with a bar. if it has a bar, and isn't hostile etc, it probably has a retired sailor poking around. e.g Bark, CrabTown, Deadcat Fishing Village, but you can also buy them along the holy nation river (in the big holy nation city, next to the river, north, forgetting its name here). They have prosthetic limbs and coats and funny hats.


Talk to him, and he'll give you the option of buying a boat. 5k for a fishing boat. 15k for a hover boat.

Now, you MUST have a base. I had to send them to a base - i couldn't figure out how to send it to someone without a base. If you don't have a base, I think you will still get it sent to you, but not until you set up a base. Even just put down a crappy shack, I don't think you even need to actually finish the shack for it to count as a base (cos you can name it and set it to public etc as soon as you place the blueprint down!)

Pay this guy 1000cats, and a few salty friends of his will ... Drag the boat to your base :P

It's a bargain but it's also a gamble that it'll make it. Depends on your area.

If you're on an island or calm beach, itll probably turn up pretty quick. And it does turn up quick. Maybe that needs adjusting. They start to meander to your base in a few hours from purchase.
So that was fine in my tests... unless... Unless your island is mountainous and full of angry fishmen/gurglers etc. In further tests it was possible to have a base that nobody is making it to. I don't know HOW kenshi decides which base to send it to if you have multiple.

As soon as they're there, the boat WILL be nearby, towing along behind them in follow mode.

It's your boat, though, just go up and talk to it as soon as it turns up. Do this before the Npc trading party leaves, or they'll take the boat with them! I tried to make them poke around for about a day ramblin'.




In my tests it was 100% turning up but i had to be patient. In one test I just had to up my base and re-set up, cos there was no chance, perhaps without some serious guarding and civilization of the perimeter, that the boat was making it. the party and them were being slain. that's just kenshi.

in the deadcat fishing trial, i just sat on the beach fishing. i'd run 100 meters up to the pub and order a boat. 2-3 hours later, the party of sailors and the boat came up to my shack, seemingly from just behind the town to my eyes.

in crab town, i allied with them, and then made a hut nearby. the party made it fine but the boat derped along about 500meters behind. but i just ran up to it and claimed it before the party left. the boats can be seen from quite a distance thanks to the ''gigantic'' tag being set to true.

The boat vendor npcs look like piratey dudes. And they tend to find a spot in their town and stick to it, although you gotta have a look around, but i've found them both in the bar but also at random places on the street.

If your boat isnt in the water and you don't want to wait the million years for it to slide over to water (er cos it CAN be controlled on land, sliding like... 1 mile an hour). just get a big fella to pick it up, drag it to the water like a viking, and put it down.

THEN, to RIDE your boat, select your boat, and right click on your Passenger, "PICK UP", as you would pick up any other character.

You can only have one person carried per boat. And then you just control your boat as you would, and right click on it and go ''PUT DOWN" when you want to disembark..

It has a hull storage, basically the inventory + bagstorage, of the boat, with a bunch of room for things.

You can probably put all sorts of equipment on the boat in the chest and legging armor slot! Just don't. it doesn't break the game probably maybe or maybe it will, i just haven't done it more than once where it made the textures on the boat look derp, but that seemed to be the only ill consequence :P
