Description



ApertureVR is an addon that brings Portal 2 mechanics and assets to Half-Life: Alyx for both players and creators. Pushing the HL:A tools to their limits, you'll see old and new test elements and familiar looking aesthetics, but to solve the test chambers you'll have to be thinking without portals.

Featuring familiar assets, enhanced textures and new VR ready models, this release of ApertureVR represents the first playable demo, and gives you a sense of what we hope to achieve. We also want to give the community the ability the opportunity to create more Aperture-themed VR content with the ApertureVR Source Pack, featuring over 200 models (both new and ported), 40 unique prefabs and Hammer examples. You want Turrets? Hard-light bridges? Excursion Funnels? We have all of those and more... Just no Portals.

We're also looking for skilled Source 2 modders to help take this further. This release represents the work of four people from the Shooter: Revived modding team, created from scratch over a period of less than 30 days. With a bigger team, we hope we can integrate new puzzles, more unique VR-friendly mechanics and vastly improved assets. Maybe even Portals. (That was a joke.) Our goal was to bring Portal content and their gameplay mechanics to Half-Life: Alyx in a way that's as polished as possible, to both the user and the creator. That means:
  • We've remade and/or reworked most Portal 2 gameplay assets to look their best in VR.
  • We've recreated most of the test elements seen in Portal 2, with full functionality. These include: excursion funnels, lasers, turrets, hard light bridges, and even more.
  • We're releasing a source pack for map creators to build custom test chambers.





The ApertureVR Source Pack contains prefabs, models, scripts, maps and more that allows creators to design more custom test chambers in VR. A "zoo" map is also included, that showcases and explains all elements.

This is absolutely incredible! I have been waiting since 2016 for a portal VR port and this is by far the best implementation of that I have played (yes I've played Portal Stories VR). The graphics are amazing and so exact to portal 2 it's unbelievable, the feeling of actually being IN the chambers is what I've been waiting for. This just shows that it's definitely possible to make a Portal 2 game in VR, even though there are no portals. I have played enough community made maps to know that you don't need portals to make a great map, there are enough elements to create really challenging and fun maps! Well done guys I'd LOVE to see more of this, and perhaps one day we'll be able to have portals in these maps!

A couple questions. - 1. I placed buttons in my map but they activate when anything including small objects like a paint can or xen grenade are placed on them. Any fix?
2. I am almost ready to publish my map, will the portal items need to be packed for them to publish? I used to use pakrat for packing custom items in the old hammer for Portal 2. Not sure what the equivalent is now.
3. Are there any guides or tutorials for publishing or for using the Portal items in general? I found I could get some of your Portal items to work but not others.

Seeing as how this was made from Portal 2, would it be possible on a technical level for HL2 water shaders or npcs (hunters, fast zombies, etc.) to be ported into Source 2 in the future?

This is awesome! It looks and feels like Portal in VR, eventhough there isn't any portal :-)
This is the most different experience of any mod so far, a must for any portal fan.

this is exactly what I wanted in a HLA/Portal mod if there arent going to be portals. REALLY CREATIVE, fun for an hour.
