1. EHG / Tencent had my other (100+ Rating) Guide removed - too much truth about their shady history.
2. This Guide is from 2021 and I´m not going to help this scummy company with any tech details - as a result I removed 80% of the content (Unity Fixes, Settings, etc). Sorry to those who bookmarked it :((
3. People praising LastEpoch´s performance have zero clue what they are talking about.
-> 0.9 is still crap ..issues left & right (even new ones)

Benchmark Test
Test cycle with "recommended" rx480/rx570 (vers.0.8.2H - 06/2021)
Resolution: 1080p (Fullscreen)
All Presets: V.Low - Low - Medium - High - V.High - ULTRA
Additional Parameters: Vram - RAM - CPU
Since LastEpoch is extremely volatile we can´t use a Preset and take that FPS !! -> any serious test requires a real Scenario to understand the huge fps-Scope

Observation: CPU goes crazy even in IDLE (menu)
OK, let´s give this a closer look:
- CPU Utilization: uncapped fps 20-24%
- CPU Utilization: 60fps 10-13%
- CPU Utilization: 45fps 7-10%
- CPU Utilization: 30fps 5-8%
-> Great, the problem only exists with uncapped FPS - lucky us ^^

Solution:
  • Vsync/FPS-cap : CPU load -50%
  • Vsync HALF: CPU load -70%
-> This will also reduce System-Heat (+ power consumption) when idle or in menu..


Now for our Benchmark: "Menu - Camp - WelrynDocks"
Scenario: For reliable figures each Preset is measured over several minutes (FullClear-run)

What did we learn?
-> it´s a Unity game and Zones are instanced, so killing mobs (removing NPCs) frees RAM ^^
-> depending on Zone (..even within same Zone) overall FPS can vary ~30% by moving around
-> not really much difference between Medium <-> High (Placebo??)
-> ULTRA with DetailShadows OFF is actually similar to HIGH Preset with slightly better gfx !!
-> Those special enemies and their casts need to be fixed!! Esp. when playing on HC chars
-> FPS all over the place, even without any MULTIPLAYER, Trading, Services ..this means no networking issues or server lag!
Will FPS get better till Release ??
Judging by the changes during EarlyAccess since 2019.. it´s more likely the Requirements go up.
  1. Optimization alone cannot push a Beta-Gamebuild into 2-3x Performance unless you literally change everything. That´s basic understanding of the topic, any second-year student can tell you that.
  2. You can´t defeat the laws of physics and Software Engineering has limits, that´s why a good company tries to apply best procedures. For LastEpoch specifically: UNITY has several limitations and is not suggested for this type of game.

If the Devs manage to keep the avg. FPS stable during fights and remove the huge drops as explained above, that would be a huge improvement already. Don´t ask the impossible.. ^^

I only have a 64gb of ram 5800x3d and a 4090. The game runs fine at 4k everything maxed

I can play the menu screen at 240 fps while waiting for queue.

v0.9 had huge performance improvements as part of the patch.

For reference, I can get about 115 FPS average on all ultra settings, 1440p on a Ryzen 3600, RTX 3070, 16GB DDR4 RAM, SSD pc.

This was just in light combat though with a low level char though, didn't test much further than that yet,

They have such low respect for testers it seems, that we're now on a video game market with a good portion of developers using their own customers as testers. Paying Beta-testers.

That's how bad it has gotten. I salute your patience as a tester, I wouldn't have such patience. Not when I was younger, even less so now that I'm getting old.

A lot of devs do not take kindly to constructive criticism. They see it as THEIR product (which consumers have helped finance), so they believe only them should have a say on whatever.

I've seen them let users insult each-others on forums, do nothing, while perma-banning guys like me only for constant "negativity". It's asinine.

I'm done wasting time trying to be cool with devs. Only language they understand is money.

@Nicko Appreciated. Yes, I planned to support this game in all its facets. But Devs didn´t like criticism, changed their ways & Kickstarter promises multiple times, cancelled Modding and gave us the cold shoulder. Did this really improve anything? I think not, and it´s high time to fix this or Release is the end.. :steamsad:

@Shadow Wolf: interesting right? 1.5years later.. gtx1060 still listed as RECOMMENDED on Storepage :steamfacepalm: This game has become a huge scam.. delay.. delay.. delay... and they always try to improve grafics lol. Multiplayer will become a JOKE :steammocking:
I´m sure gtx1660 cannot run current version stable @60fps anymore. Now wait for Multiplayer, which these geniuses will never get working as I already said in 2021 - UNITY is the wrong engine for such stuff. UE4 would perform worlds better..
Honestly, they deserve 52% Steam Rating (last 30days) - 161 players are not braindead and rightfully feel scammed. Well, ARPG without Trading.. no words :cozycastondeath:

its funny because i have a 6400 i5 and a 1060 6gb running all on very low and hitting 25~40 fps :D
