The John Bull hat base was commissioned from a local milliner. The bones etc are made with Sculpey and painted, held in place with armature wire. The gold rings are actually wood spray-painted gold. The chance of finding something metal of the right size that wouldn't cause the brim to sag is tough (and I had to have this ready for a con and I was running out of time!). It actually held together fairly well when I wore it. I was expecting it to fall off or bits to break off. I need to redo the skull and two of the hearts because they're too big.
