Fixing the issue on 8.1 also can apply to win 10
Hello and welcome to the guide on how to fix the issue when playing metro 2033 on Windows 8.1 also win 10.

Fixing the issue!

How to fix it!?

1.
Firstly you must go to your control panel of Windows, and then go to Programs and features, then look for Phyx for nividia, which should be in the (N) part of the list of programs that are in alphabetical order going from A - Z.

2.
Once you find the Phyx for nividia, uninstall the Phyx from your Computer.

3.
After you have done uninstalling Phyx, go to your Steam path which goes to the game Metro 2033 which should be as shown in example below.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Metro 2033

When you are in that folder path, in the folder you should have a (Install) folder on the top of the list of files, go into that (install) folder and you should find the file called (PhysX_10.02.22_9.10.0222_SystemSoftware) that comes with the install of the game, install this Phyx version of software and after it's installed, go onto Steam and launch Metro 2033.

Notice for AMD users
If you have AMD type card, Turn off physx, it works. Run in admin, avoid AA, run in DX11, and be wary of DoF too

If you can't find the physx file needed then you can get it here Download[1drv.ms]

Libray Hole Glitch fix
Also you can fix a library hole glitch by turning physx off and on again.

I had that problem. Must have been after an update or something. Click on the desktop icon or try to start it from Steam and you just got a flicker of a standard Win 10 window opening, then it just vanished like you'd never tried to start it up in the first place.

It was the same for all of the Metro games I have (2033, LL, and both Redux versions).

Upon trying again to start one of them up I got the 'This program shut down in a weird way last time - try starting it in 'Safe Mode' or just the usual?' (slightly paraphrased). I tried the 'usual' way a few more times with the result mentioned above.

Then I got the lightning flash of inspiration - why not give that 'Safe Mode' thing a try. Of course, it worked. For all of them. Once I'd started each in 'Safe Mode' then shut them down again they all worked just fine from Steam and the desktop icons.

Gray_graff, some games that are old don't normally work with the latest Phyx, that is why I made this guide in order to show that they will need the old version in order to fix the compatible issue.
