How to Install Mods for Broforce
By Alex and 1 collaborators
This guide tells you how to install mods for Broforce via Unity Mod Manager. I've created several mods and custom bros. Gorzon has released multiple mods as well, links to his mods and mine are included in the guide

There are Mods for Broforce?
Yes, several years ago I made the first few mods for Broforce. I've put hundreds of hours into this game and as someone who enjoys programming and has always been interested in game development, I thought modding it would be fun.

The mods I've made so far are:
  • Swap Bros[thunderstore.io] which allows you to choose the bro you want to play with and swap mid-game. It also allows you to access the Expendabros and some unfinished bros the developers left in the game.
  • Utility Mod[thunderstore.io] which allows you to instantly go to any level in the campaign, skip the helicopter flying section on the world map, and loop levels for practicing. As well as many other random things.
  • Iron Bro Multiplayer[thunderstore.io] which allows you to play IronBro with local multiplayer.
  • Randomizer Mod[thunderstore.io] which randomizes every enemy in the game into either other enemies or bosses.
  • Control Enemies Mod[thunderstore.io] which allows you to spawn as enemies or take control of them with a mind control bullet. There's also a competitive multiplayer mode.

There are also many mods by Gorzon:
  • Expendables Bros In Game[www.nexusmods.com] which adds the expendabros into the game and allows you to rescue them and spawn as them.
  • Filtered Bros[www.nexusmods.com] which allows you to choose which bro you can spawn with. It also includes Expendabros.
  • Show Facehugger[www.nexusmods.com] which shows a facehugger on your HUD when he is on your bro.
  • Brommando Trained[www.nexusmods.com] which reworks Brommando's abilities.
  • Bro Ceasar Trained[www.nexusmods.com] which reworks Bro Ceasar's abilities.

You can find more detailed descriptions of what each one does in the links above. If you find any of them interesting and would like to add them to your game, follow the instructions below.
Custom Bros
Gorzon has created an amazing tool called BroMaker,[thunderstore.io] which drastically simplifies adding custom bros into the game. Currently the tool allows for creating bros either through json, if you only want to reuse existing abilities, or you can create your own bro via programming to allow for much greater customization. See the BroMaker wiki[github.com] for some info on how to do this.

Here are some of the custom bros that have been created so far:
Migrating to Thunderstore/r2modman from Nexus Mods
IMPORTANT: If you've previously installed mods from Nexus Mods, you'll need to follow these instructions to switch to using Thunderstore mods.

The easiest method is to just start up UnityModManager and click uninstall:

This will leave behind some old files in your Broforce folder, so if you'd like to completely clean up the old install you can also go to your Broforce folder and delete the BroMaker_Storage and Mods folders to remove the old mods and bros.

Installing Old Mods / Bros from Nexus Mods
There may still be some mods and bros on Nexus Mods that have not yet been moved to Thunderstore. It's still possible to use these mods, and possibly the bros as long as they're compatible with the new BroMaker version.

In order to install them you'll need to first follow the steps below for installing a mod from Thunderstore.

Then you can download the mod / bro you want to install from Nexus Mods.

Then open up r2modman, and click the "Browse profile folder" button in the settings:

Go into the UMM folder:

and then go into the Mods folder if you're installing a mod or the BroMaker_Storage folder if you're installing a bro.
The BroMaker_Storage folder may not exist if you haven't installed any bros yet via Thunderstore. In that case you can create it manually.

Extract the zip archive of the bro / mod in that folder
and then start up Broforce via r2modman. Note that the bro / mod will not appear in r2modman's UI, but it should still show in the UMM window once in-game if you've installed it correctly.
Installing Mods
Downloading and Running r2modman
Before you can install mods you need to install r2modman[thunderstore.io].

Go to this link[thunderstore.io] and click "Manual Download"

Inside the downloaded .zip file, run the "r2modman Setup X.X.X.exe" (where X.X.X is the current version).

Follow the steps in the installer.

Installing mods
First you'll need to find a mod you want to install from Thunderstore.[thunderstore.io]

After you've chosen a mod, click the "Install with Mod Manager" button on the mod page.

Select which profile you'd like to install the mods to, default is fine.

Then you may need to click the "Install with Mod Manager" button again, but after that you should see the the mod and all its dependencies being installed.

After that you can go ahead and click "Start Modded" to start up Broforce with your mods.

Note that if you launch it through Steam it will not load the mods. If you'd like it to always launch modded even through Steam, see the instructions at the bottom of this section.

You should see this menu once you reach the main menu screen.

This menu can be dragged around and toggled on and off with Ctrl + F10. If you go to the settings tab you'll find various options such as the ability to change the hotkey to open the mod window and an option to make the mod window not appear on startup.

You can change settings for each individual mod by clicking on this button

Optionally Make Broforce Always Launch Modded
If you'd like Broforce to always launch modded, go to the Help section in r2modman and copy these launch arguments:

Then add them to Broforce's launch arguments in Steam by right clicking on the game in your library and going to "Properties":

And then adding that text to the launch options field:

Now you can enjoy your mods.

Installing Custom Bros
Installing custom bros is the same as mods, follow the same instructions as above.

Should be "Go to level on startup" under the Level Controls section.

Hey whats the setting in the utility mod that instantly puts you into the map as soon as the title screen fully drops. I've been trying to turn it off but I dont know what it is
Alex  [author] Mar 6 @ 5:25pm
Well you wouldn't really need to convert it you'd just need to place the files in the right place, and make sure you're on the latest version of RocketLib and BroMaker. You'd also need to use the version of Unity Mod Manager that's uploaded on Thunderstore.

It'd be a lot easier though if you just used r2modman or the Thunderstore Mod Manager. Avoiding all these manual installation steps is exactly why I wanted to switch to it. I'd probably just try and get it working instead if you're able to. I can try to help you with getting r2modman working, but I don't really want to try and keep supporting Unity Mod Manager installs.

lets say I for certain reasons am unable to use r2modman, while unity mod manager works perfectly fine, but i am unable to get the drunken broster specifically. is there any possible way to manually convert it?

The "Skeleton Dead Face" mod is obsolete ever since the dev made a better version in the Forever update

The "Skeleton Dead Face" mod link no longer works, the uploader must've deleted it. Does anyone still have it?

No, it's pretty similar to Broforce though so it's probably possible to use the same techniques to make mods for it, if you have programming experience.
