Alien Race Ship Designs
Combat and Dialogue UI

We are a small family team (myself, wife, and son) and are very excited to share our progress on StarDiver with the community. I am an old-school gamer and simply can not understand why the good old epic space romps of yesteryear are not made anymore. I'm talking about games like Omnitrend's Universe, Star Flight, Sun Dog, Star Control and more -- the epic space operas with tons of aliens to converse with, planets to mine, and galaxies to save.

StarDiver is a project of love from an old gamer that has been waiting for over two decades for a good new space romp and I can't wait any longer. So here we go, it is time to make a new one! I hope the community will join me on our intergalactic quest to make a new space epic worthy to even be mentioned along with the great games of the past.

Early Dev -- maybe 20% of unknown space is now known.

Hey is this still in development? I've been really looking forward to it

Aww, I actually went away feeling I had been too nitpicky; no pleasing the fans, etc.

Looking forward to having more to comment on as it develops. I have 2 Best Games Of All Time: Christmas NiGHTS and Star Control II, hence my huge interest in this one. I loved what I saw of the star system navigation; combat among the planets, all orbiting for you to watch, and the colourful planet close-ups were really great. The backgrounds in the melee battles I've seen; also really fantastic. And I should say that the 3 music tracks I've heard among the melee and system navigation are all also spot on. Fun and cool for melee, mellow for navigation with a space-like vibe, and just good to listen to in general. This one:
... especially nice at the end.

Anyway, yes, looking forward to having more to check out.

Deef, thanks for the feedback -- very detailed eye you have for layout. Our artist has taken it to heart and we will strive to do some varied ones as we make our remaining aliens.

The artwork does look fantastic though, I should have mentioned that.

Looks great, pretty much already sold for me.

One weird comment/nitpick is that the aliens in what I assume are dialog screens all have roughly the same size and positioning on the screen. There's not a lot variation in their .. presence. Consider in contrast how the Orz were backed off and operating their ship, the Spathi was in your face funny, the Ur-Quan filled most of the screen. The Utwig were solemn and solitary, while the Thraddash positioning gave a cramped, sweaty feel.
Many of the dialog screens for Star Diver seem to miss that element of the alien's character, simply displaying the alien rather than building their character further with how they're positioned. And just the low amount of variation in this respect jumped out at me.

Having said that, they're great as they are also. Not a deal breaker by any stretch of the imagination.
