You can place multiple cooking stations over one fire
As you can see here I have placed 6 cooking stations over a single fire but you could obviously scale this up to your hearts desire by placing extra campfires and cooking stations in a similar manner.

This setup lets me cook 12 pieces of meat/fish at once, making cooking all those food stacks much quicker than it was when I was using a single cooking station. Now you'll have more time for adventuring and you'll have a nice full tum tum too!

Hope this helps someone out, this took me longer to realise than I'd like to admit.

Thanks for that. What i did was put 4 cook racks about the outside of the cooking fires, and ran a circle about each, by the time I got done placing them, its time to harvest them before they turn to coal, easy peasy,

After you put it on the fire wait until you hear the meat sizzle and press E on it to grab it off. If you let it sizzle twice it will turn to coal.

If it makes it easier you can place the meat on the cooking station and look directly at it and keep pressing E to grab it off as soon as it's cooked.

Sorry for the late reply but to eat food you can right click it or put it on your action bar and use it from there. Hope this helps!
