ARK: Rex Taming
By gumblemutt
This guide will explain explain the taming of the Tyrannosaurus Rex.
Please keep in mind the fact that I played with slightly boosted settings, and the rex I tamed was a low leve, as I am a simple man.

Finding a rex
For such a well known creature, you might expect it to be a little difficult to locate a rex. However, it is anything but. You can find Rexes in the mainland of the island, stomping around and ruining the days of any local herbivores. They generally spawn in any large, open area.
This includes mountains, plains, and the tundra area, and they usually spawn alone. (For your sake, I hope one spawns alone.) It shouldn't be hard to spot one either, as they're one of the larger theropods on the island, and are quite loud as well. If you feel the ground shaking, assume that a Rex has happily found you before you found it.
Chasing - or being chased by - the Rex
Now that you've found your rex, there's a couple important things to keep in mind.
Firstly, most areas that Rexes live in are already dangerous on their own. Lots of other carnivores - or the occasional territorial Theri - will spawn nearby, so it's best to clear all threats, or attempt to avoid them.
Secondly, the Rex has a pretty low base movement speed. A player's base movement speed is enough to outrun them, making it pretty easy to escape, or kite to a safe area. Lastly, the Rex will attempt to flee when it realizes it's getting sleepy. This isn't too much of a problem, as again, it is quite slow, but it is harder to control where it runs, which may result in you chasing it into the path of a rather hungry carnivore. One that might not be as easy to outrun.
That's a knockout!

Eventually, you will KO the rex. Obviously, it's going to enjoy a diet of meat, and prime meat can help speed this process along. If you'd rather use kibble, the Rex enjoys Exceptional Kibble[ark.gamepedia.com], one of the harder kibbles to create. The only threat you'll face during the knockout is whatever creature is dumb enough to attack a rex, so watch out for Dilos. I hate them so, so much.

I personaly prefer the taming pen
Gives me full control over the rex its movement once it starts to get sleepy since it cant run away.
And so much easyer to shoot it KO specialy if you want high level ones.

Still good guide ;)

Perhaps it does, if you wanna take the risk of it biting your head off. And once you get good harvesting dinos those stone gateways are not expensive at all to make. Im just giving you the safest option.

@Kotkata Running around in circles surprisingly uses less materials than 4 stone gateways and a beartrap

You can literally just use 4 stone gateways and 1 large bear trap.Place a gate on the gateway you want the rex to enter from.Once you lure him in and hes stuck in the trap for a good few seconds go around and close the gate behind him. Then all you have to do is spam the ♥♥♥♥ out of him with tranq arrows/darts.Its as simple as that.
