Key strategic elements to consider when playing Legion Commander:

Consider skilling Press the Attack on level 1 or 2 if you are being harassed by dispellable damage-over-time spells.
Use Overwhelming Odds to secure a creep last hit and harass the enemy heroes at the same time, especially if it is the enemy ranged creep.
Aggro creeps on yourself to increase Moment of Courage procs. It can be useful for denying as well. You can also abuse the global aggro mechanic to force creeps to hit you.
Once you get Blink Dagger, do not give up farm to start running around the map. Keep making plays while Duel is up and farm in between ganks and teamfights.
Duelling any hero is fine in early to mid game to collect Duel victories, which will then allow you to potentially solo kill heroes.
In mid to late game, make sure to Duel specific heroes and not care about Duel victory as much.
Sometimes, it is better not to initiate fights but rather stay back to save an ally with Press the Attack and turn the fight around. Patience is key.
Purchase Black King Bar to survive during Duels and not get stunned or disarmed.
