It's been a crazy last few weeks trying to get multiplayer ready for our release launch on Desura, Fireflower, and the other bundle deals that are upcoming featuring Crater Maker. The good news is that this means we're hoping to get a lot more feedback on the game which will help a lot in determining how the game improves over time - after all there's only so much testing we can do while trying to get the game "feature complete"!

This build's main highlight is the multiplayer race mode we've added in! Yes, it's a smidge rough around the edges with some of the logic (if anyone crashes, it sends everyone back to the lobby) and there's a lot of beautification to be done with the game's UI overall, but we think the game is progressing quite nicely given that this is only our fifth alpha build! Internal testing on the team has been a blast and we're sure you'll enjoy it too! The amazing feedback we've gotten so far shows us how passionate fans of the game are, and we can't wait to hear more.

At the risk of being a little bit of a bummer, the game still sits around the halfway mark to getting Greenlit on Steam... if there's anyone out there you can share this game with and get them to vote on our Greenlight page, please do! We definitely want to see this game get released on Steam and the people that have commented on our Greenlight so far have been massively supportive (thank you!). Anything you can do that gets the game more attention will help!

Your Rough Landing Recovery Crew,
The PWM Team

As usual, the quick synopsis of the work done since the last build is that the majority of efforts have gone towards the new Retro Mode, which offers a 2.5D version of our existing Challenge Mode, and so far it's one of our personal favorites to play around in (err, strategically test). Definitely check it out for yourself and let us know what you think!

Having retro in place has helped show us some areas that need improvement in general gameplay, specifically taking some time to make sure that each planet type has its own unique challenge to keep every level and gameplay session fresh and fun. We also have started experimenting with some in-game UI elements to assist you in your endeavors to tackle the universe's systems, so let us know what your preferences are on that: minimap and/or planetary indicators? Gravity direction indicator or none?

And a quick report on our Greenlight status, we're about halfway there but the rate which we're receiving new votes has fallen off pretty sharply, which means we need some help getting the word out! Being a small group of guys with literally no funding means that we can't get the attention of everyone we'll need to get Greenlit on our own, so that's where you come in! If you want to see this game get released on Steam, make sure you get everyone you know to come vote for us. We've come a long way but there's still a bit more to go, so let's make this happen!

Important news! Right now is your last chance to get in with the "pay what you want" preorder option[] on our website! Crater Maker has been accepted to some online retailers (we'll be sure to announce where once it's officially available there), and our website's sale price will reflect that of the retailers. You will always be able to get the game from us DRM-free, and it will still be sold at a reduced cost everywhere until its final release is ready.

We always appreciate your continued support, and make sure you try out the new retro mode, we're sure you'll love it!

Burning Your Atmosphere,
The PWM Team

Release date: Spring 2014
Crater Maker brings us back to the glory days of gaming, putting you in the astronaut's hot seat to tackle a daunting task: supply the universe! As a delivery pilot for Lightspeed Services, you will find yourself navigating your craft through the darkest reaches of space to ensure your customers receive their goods. Manage your fuel, find the quickest path to your destination, don't tick off the aliens, and avoid asteroids and other obstacles to earn bonuses and achieve the ultimate in glory in SCENARIO MODE.

Still need more? Crater Maker's CHALLENGE MODE provides you the opportunity to put your abilities to the test as you explore an ever-expanding universe! Challenge Mode takes you beyond our solar system and into one of the five kabillion galaxies the universe has to offer. Find yourself landing on new planets, moons, asteroids, and space stations as you take a grand tour throughout a procedurally built final frontier!

Our latest addition, RETRO MODE, gives you the chance to play in Crater Maker's challenging sandbox in a classically styled 2.5D mode. The unique difficulty of the other modes combined with the classic perspective makes for a rewarding experience that's easy to learn and difficult to master.

We aren't stopping there, as we'll be releasing new single and multiplayer modes, including our scenario editor (our first step in mod support). You can setup up all the finer details of your own scenarios, right down to the gravity properties of each planet.

Implemented Features
  • Procedurally generated, seed based solar systems. No two rounds are the same, unless you want them to be!
  • Physics based, skill-dependent gameplay focusing on successfully guiding your lander to safety
  • Having multiple planets in a level means different gravity scales. Fly with caution!
  • Scenario Mode - Take on the role of delivery pilot for Lightspeed Services in our story scenario, or try out a player created campaign.
  • Challenge Mode - Pilot your lander through solar systems with increasing difficulty factors
  • Xbox Controller supported
  • Cross-Platform Support! Play on your PC, Mac, and Linux devices

Upcoming Features
  • An expanded scenario mode with multiple missions to play through
  • More ships, planet types, and space stations
  • Multiplayer Modes - Competitive and cooperative play!
  • Leaderboards and achievements for being the best of the best
  • Share your solar system seed with your friends to compare scores
  • Mod support for the ultimate customization factor! Create your own scenarios with the official Editor!

I'm not sure what happened or how this got linked to that bullet hell game's store page. It definitely wasn't intentional on our end. We did end up doing a spinoff of the retro mode for mobile, it was a lot more practical for us to finish quickly. If you have an Android phone and want to test out the alpha, sign up here: and then download it off the Google Play store. It'll be free at release too!
