Traits - Corpse Handling

Descrizione
Since seeing corpses and managing moods is such a major part of Rimworld, I wanted to create a mod that would allow Pawns such as the Colony Doctor or Tribal Shaman to have the strength of mind to view and handle corpses without suffering negative effects.

While Pawns with Bloodlust, Cannibal and Psychopath can already do this in certain circumstances, those Traits come as a package with other abilities which might not be desirable from a role-playing point of view.

This mod adds the following two Traits...

Desensitized : {PAWN_nameDef} has seen too many people die and finds it normal now. {PAWN_pronoun} is still disgusted by the thought of handling rotting corpses however.

Totally Desensitized : {PAWN_nameDef} has seen far too many people die and finds it normal now. Even rotting corpses do not affect {PAWN_objective}.

The first Trait is somewhat uncommon (0.8 weighting) and the second is rather rare (0.4 weighting). Of course with EdB Prepare Carefully you can easily pick a specific Trait to allocate to a chosen Pawn.

CONFLICTS : None known although Cannibal Party and Cannibal Party+ already turn off the ObservedLayingCorpse and ObservedLayingRottingCorpse moodlets for all Pawns.

TECHNICAL : This mod is written using xpath in order to cause as few conflicts as possible. It creates two new TraitDefs called DC_Desensitized and DC_TotallyDesensitized. It contains a Patch that uses PatchOperationAdd to insert the new TraitDefs into the list of nullifyingTraits for the ObservedLayingCorpse and ObservedLayingRottingCorpse ThoughtDefs. It should not conflict with any mod that has been written with xpath in mind.

PERMISSIONS : You may update or alter this mod, put it in a Mod Compilation or merge it into any other mod without seeking permission. You may upload this mod on any site that supports Rimworld modding.

okay yep just added <li>1.6</li> to the About.xml file using notepad and the mod works perfectly with no errors after hours of gameplay. Posting this reply for anyone else who wants to use this mod.

I don't have any way of testing it on 1.6 but since the Ideology update it isn't really necessary any more. You would have to edit the About.xml file to include version 1.6 if you wanted to try it. It *should* work fine but there are other ways of achieving the same effect now.

Do you happen to know if this will work for 1.6? Don't really want to test it on my 1.6 save and just break everything.

There we go - I don't own the 1.5 DLC but having updated the About.xml supportedVersions list the mod loads fine with no issues or complaints that I am aware of.

1.5?

This is a Trait that can appear (or be picked if you are Preparing Carefully). It is not a dynamic Trait that might be "earned" mid-playthrough. I wanted to roleplay a start where a Tribal Shaman had seen enough of the Tribe's deaths that he was not disgusted by the sight of corpses as he prepared fallen Tribals for their journey into the afterlife.

Like, do pawns obtain it when seeing enough corpses or carrying them, or is it just given randomly upon character generation?
Hazzikaze 14 feb 2024, ore 3:48
Does this trait become given to pawns naturally or does it need to be added via a character editor?

I don't use ideology or really have a want to use it but would still like to see more traits appear occasionally, thank you for your mod and your service sir.

I know Ideology makes this mod redundant but in case there are some folks using it who don't have that DLC, here's the 1.4 update.
