DOOM inspired music

This mod aims to bring the hardcore, kill 'em all, run and gun feeling of DOOM to Left for Dead. With music composed by me and inspired by the DOOM franchise!

The goal for this mod is to change as much of the music as possible to fit into a DOOM themed setting from the "Zombat" music through to the special infected.

I am a composer, not a coder and thus any help with the coding side of things would be greatly appreciated. From volume settings to game calls any help would be greatly appreciated.

Version information:

Version 1.0 - Tank music
Version 1.1 - beginning of the implementation of map music. This update contains the intro music for the saferooms as well as the map intro music for the mall map
Version 1.2 - Implementation of intro music for maps: Dead Centre, The Parish and Dark Carnival

The music in Left 4 Dead 2 is A LOT quieter than the SFX and thus In order to make the music as louder so that it has more impact to it, I have had to master the pieces louder than normal to give them that effect, this in turn can cause audio distortion and other undesirable artefacts. This may be possible to avoid in the future with the help of a coder but for now this is the only way. IF you would prefer to have a less "in your face" approach to the music, more akin to the original soundtrack please comment below!

Furthermore, this project has become part of my portfolio for UNI and I also have some medical treatments ongoing for the next few months. I will be working on the mod during this time and focusing on a large update once this is over.

IMPORTANT UPDATE 8th December 2020

Hey all! There is an update coming as we speak to add two new level pieces.

I have been going through trying to work out a way to implement the music in the way I want, however, there is a big issue:

1. I need to change the code which is something I don't know how to do in the source engine. I have been doing my best to try and learn about it using the tools/information from valve but a lot of this information is completely outdated and doesn't apply to changes made or simply is an incomplete article about that area of the music system, this is especially true in terms of the zombat dynamic music system that I simply have not been able to find any information on. At this point there are 5 additional pieces that I simply do not know how to code into the game to actually implement them despite my best efforts to understand the game's code.

I can still make do with other music that is simple to implement however, there are still issues to be found here as well. One issue I know of atm is that the music for some areas needs to be the exact same length as the original music or it will cause strange audio artifacts and sometimes the audio will simply stop and play a different piece of music entirely (even if the game code for music states it should play through till the end)

So what does this mean for the mod? Well... It has come to my attention that I may be able to use Fmod to implement the audio but it sounds like this may be only client side and thus may not work for multiplayer. If I cannot use FMOD then unfortunetly wont be able to change music that uses the dynamic music system (such as the zombat music).

Well, a suggestion for the Witch, the music needs to be edgy.
I would recommend taking some inspiration from the song Disguise by Motionless in White.

Completely understandable and I have been kicking myself to release one but I think at this point it would just sound like a mess.

What I will do is I'll try to get a taste of it out atm (within the next week or so) for one or two campaigns featuring the music for the safe rooms etc.

So far not much progress on the zombat music. I will need to redo the code for this almost entirely and programming/coding is not my forte so doing this music will take quite a bit of time (to actually implement)

Hey Shad3rEVO,

I am actually still working on this mod at the moment :) currently I am doing work on all of the campaign music for the mod before releasing it whilst trying to work out a way to do the zombat music.

At the moment I am planning to finish all the level pieces before releasing them so that I may hear the continuity of all of them before release.

If people prefer I can release these pieces early before I have done this, however, theey will more than likely be subject to change and may not work as well as intended
