How to not die to 'Giant Spiders'
By Jack
[Insert poorly written guide below]

Hello everybody. Lately i have been playing FTL and have continuously died to those giant spiders over there. See them? Waving at us, fangs out? They're evil. You better watch out. Even with melee centered races you will, chances are, causing your men/women to commit suicide. "But..but..but... SCRAP"... Scrap is all good an dandy but is it worth killing off your crewmembers?
How to win the random event.
Theres several way's to win the chance and actually get past the random event without any bad reprecussions. Here's an extract from the FTL Wiki.

"You find a number of ships fleeing from a small space station. You hail them, asking what's wrong: "Help! We're being overrun by some sort of giant alien spiders!"
1: Send the crew to help immediately! Giant alien spiders are no joke.
Your crew boards the station, cautiously moving between corridors. Suddenly a man-sized arachnid bursts from a vent in the ceiling, followed by countless more. You fight your way back to the airlock and are forced to leave before accounting for all crew members. Not everybody made it back.
-You lose 1 random crew member.
2: Your crew slowly creeps up on a cluster of the creatures from behind. Without warning, the giant arachnids turn and charge. However, your team stays in control and before long you've beaten them back.
-Contact the station owners.
They are thrilled with your success and offer you a reward.
You receive a high amount of resources and some scrap.
Leave them alone.
-You can't risk fighting some unknown alien on every backwater station you come across. You prepare to jump.

(Anti-Personnel Drone) Send your battle drone in to help. []
You pull up alongside the station and release the drone through the airlock. Within a short time the majority of the creatures are dead, with only a little collateral damage. They express their most sincere gratitude.
-You receive a medium amount of resources and some scrap.

(Boarding Drone) Launch a boarding drone into the station. []
You launch the drone and it crashes through their hull, leaving a huge breach. You watch as the drone tears through the creatures while debris and dead bodies fly out of the breach. The owners of the station are less than effusive when they thank you, and offer only a meager payment. Maybe it's a good time to leave...
-You receive a low amount of scrap and resources.

(Bio-Beam) Use the beam to pick off the spiders.
You instruct them to drop their shields and you are able to kill the creatures without damaging the station. "The monsters just started bursting into flame as we watched. What a terrifying weapon... Here, take this for your help, friend."
-You receive a high amount of resources and some scrap.
In conclusion, STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM INFECTED SPACE STATIONS!... Unless you have a decent crew (Chance) or one of the special weapons or drones. FasterThanLight and every other strategy/roguelike games reward punishment but there is alway's one that hardly ever works. This is one of them.

Another solution to avoid losing a crew member is to have the clone bay

With the refueling platform, I think having improved blast doors triggers a blue option, but that could be CE.

if you have a rock member you will always get the good outcome

At least its not the infected mining colony. I hate that one so much, it may have more blue options, but a clonebay won't save you.

That feeling when you win against the spiders 2 times in a row on 2 runs

I was just clicking a bit through Steam and saw this post.
Good job and kudo's for that picture.. missing a disappointed look on the one, who they had to leave behind :p
I am pretty sure it's not a 50/50 chance though. Had this event pretty often and always lost a single crew member, (with the exception of the drone options)
Would rather say a 1/4 chance
