Are customized perk Icons allowed?
By XKnightO
So in this guide I'm going to clarify the question if Custom Icons are allowed or forbidden. My sources depend on answers of the DbD support and the EAC Support.

Introduction
So as you might already heard of, you can change the icons of your Perks/Addons/Offerings or even Killer abilities by changing some files in your %localappdata% folder of DbD. But I've seen many people asking on forums if it's allowed to change those files. In the picture down below , you can see some of those modified perks.

What the DbD support says
So I wrote the DbD support and as you might already know, they sent an automatic generated E-Mail which says:

"Hello

Thank you for contacting us.

Although we are not actively searching for and banning this, it has always been considered "use at your own risk". Should you encounter any side-effects, or if EAC later decide to flag your account - we will not assist you.

We hope this clarifies our position.

Stay safe out there
The Dead By Daylight team"

So this answer wasn't enough for me of course, so I decided to contact the EAC (Anticheat of DbD) to get their statement.

What the Easy Anti Cheat (EAC) support says
So, after I waited about 2 hours, I got an much more helpful answer from the EAC support , which is the following :

"Thank you for your question.

Easy Anti-Cheat is only interested of the use of third-party tools designed to grant an unfair in-game advantage over other players. If the program does not grant any such advantages for you in-game, your account is not at risk of being flagged by the anti-cheat protection.

If you are unsure about whether the tool or an action in question may be considered forbidden by the game, we recommend contacting the game developer directly to confirm that first. As the anti-cheat provider our main focus is on the specifically crafted cheating tools, but it is always possible that a game has explicitly forbidden individual third-party tools or game-file modification.

Hope that makes sense.
Have a fantastic day and enjoy the game!

Regards,
Easy Anti-Cheat Support "

So, as you could read in the second part of the answer, where the EAC support says, I should directly ask the deleveloper, I wrote another E-mail with the EAC answer but sadly I just got the same automatic generated answer.

Conclusion
So coming to my conclusion of this guide, we have the DbD support saying that if the EAC anticheat flags your account after changing the files, they can't assist you and can't unban you. On the other side we have the EAC support, where you can hand in a unban formular , if you didn't cheat , for example changing the files for the icon perks. But the EAC support is saying, that they only focus on banning third-party tools, which give you an unfair advantage.

So, if you really want to have those modified perks, then I would say go for it ( I put a link down below)

but if you dont want to risk your account getting banned, even though the chance is low, then just play with the normal perks.

I am really disappointed in the DbD support for their automatic emails but on the other side, I'm really satisfied with the EAC support.

I hope, this guide could help you and if you want those modified perks, i have an example of one icon pack down below.

so from what i actually heard, eac doenst even scan the folder in which the custom icons are in, but i also heard that if you f*** something up that eac even forces you to close the game and verify the gamefiles. yeah those statements kinda contradict each other but if one of them if true then nothing happens

sidenote: if youre scared of doing something wrong then i can advice you to use the dbd icon toolbox which is a great piece of software

I honestly can't fathom what response you expected from DbD. They gave you the only reasonable response: 'we're not going to stop you from screwing with game files, but if you mess something up--including if you mess something up that makes your game look iffy to an anti-cheat program--we're also not responsible for pulling your butt out of a fire you lit yourself and that we have no greater power to evaluate than the anti-cheat program.'

They have other things to do, and in this context it's not rational to act as if they should be prepared to get involved on a case by case basis regarding if the changes you made to your files were really cheating. That judgement call is LITERALLY the service they pay the anti-cheat program for, because the anti-cheat program has specialized knowledge behind its development. Frankly I think you come off as pretty silly for acting as if a more elaborate or individual response was warranted.

i've been using custom perk icons for most of my time playing dbd (500+ hours) and i still haven't been banned, pretty sure it's safe so long as you know what you're doing.
