Knowing who fills what job on either side is an extremely important aspect of learning and improving in R6 Siege.

The intention of this guide is to help you with gaining:
• an overview of what can be expected when playing on the attacking side and facing a defensive team with certain operators
  
• an understanding of defending operators' strengths
  
• a notion of which operator to play in case-specific playstyle is your preference

Please note that it is more of an introduction to defending operators.
In order to gain a full understanding, you should check detailed operator guides. Such in-depth information will be useful for becoming a better defender, but also when attacking against various rosters and setups.

BREACH DENIAL

MAIN TASK

The main job of Breach Denial defenders is to prevent Hard Breachers (attacking role) from creating an opening in reinforced surfaces.

Such openings create new entry points to the objective, as well as new angles that defenders can be shot from.
Therefore, Breach Denial operators are one of (if not the) most vital operators to reliable team success in Rainbow Six Siege!

ANTI-INTEL

MAIN TASK

Preventing attackers from gathering intel is the primary role of intel denial defenders.
The most common way of gathering information on the attack is by utilizing drones. Defenders in this group deny such intel by interacting with the drones.


A special case for intel denial is Mute, who can also prevent intel from other unique gadgets, such as Dokaebbi's Logic Bomb or Lion's EE-ONE-D.

AREA DENIAL

MAIN TASK

Denying access to areas for attackers is the name of the game for below operators.
Each of them works differently, but they serve the above purpose.

Defenders included in this group tend to be difficult to play correctly. Thus, we would recommend using them once you grasp basic Rainbow Six Siege concepts and understand maps, as well as operators' interactions.

MAIN TASK

Intel is the king in Rainbow Six Siege and below operators specialize in gathering it for the defensive team.
This role is especially useful if you play in a team that communicates (as you should).

Remember: Intel has to be shared within the team to be of utmost effectiveness!

Intel Gathering role group contains the most defenders from all the groups.

MAIN TASK

The toolkit of below operators is designed to enhance their roaming capability.
They fill in important roles - delaying objective push and denying map control to attacking squad.

For new players roaming will be a more difficult part of defending than anchoring the site.

Yes, absolutely. He provides valuable intel to the team, no doubt about that.
We were on edge with Lesion's primary role, as he is such a versatile defender. Eventually, we decided that Lesion mechanically fits better trap operators than intel-gathering specialists.

As lesion callouts are major he's really good for info imo! But I could understand not putting him into the information gathering tab (specially since there are already so many)

Why is Warden considered Intel Gatherer? He has his glasses but that does provide the same type of intel that Valkyrie can.
