Report a translation problem
From what I can tell, it's bold because, for that specific item, that specific character has gives you the most points for it. The "Elegant Fountain Pen", for example, gives you 3 points from Louis, but every other character gives less points, making Louis the best choice. You'll see that every row where 3 is bold, there is no 5, meaning 3 points is the highest you can get from that item.
My initial guess was: this was the best person to give that item to based upon other items you can give to other people, so utilize this '3 point item' on 'this character'. However, that isn't written anywhere so I wanted to confirm.
