stormsend's gate system.
(as in his map: smoke & mirrors.)
used 1 pedestal button, to do a different thing each time. (4 different panels opened).
this is simplified & added signage,
to show how it is achieved.
you can add as many different sequences, that the pedestal button can activate as you like.
(only limited by the item limit)
just by adding funels & buttons, as in this demo.
2 x funels for each button.
also each button can activate multiple items.
8 on their own, but if you connect to lasers going into multiple relays.
you can get each button, to activate as many items as you like. (again, only limited by the item limit)
for the purpose of this demonstration,
each button only activates 1 light bridge, to the side of it. seeing the mechanism, was requested by daloboy.

stormsend used this method on 1 of his maps.
daloboy enquired about it.
so I thought this was the best way to explain how it works.
so anyone could then use it, if it was needed, in one of thier maps.

to be honest, it's months since I played stormsend's map.
& I cannot remember exactly.
I know he did an update after I played & I re-tested.
so my memory could be of either version.
so what I do remember, could be wrong ?
I just tried to go to it, so I could have a memory jogger.
but it would not display the page.
so I could not subscribe again.
but if you wan't to figure out a map.
using a glitch, when it is not part of the puzzle.
will hamper your understanding.
saying that, reporting exploits to the authur is good.
but glitch exploits are often left in.
as most players will realize it is not the intended solution.
other reported exploits, however, often lead to updates.
what types of maps do you like most ?

mood3rd I just did that map.

It was sort of frustrating waiting for the doors to switch and then playing "find the differences" looking for what changed between button presses, but once I had all that down I used a glitch I learned from making my map series to do the actual puzzle.

What did I miss!? blech.

I didn't see the use of the lightbridge or faithplate.

I hold stormsend in high reguard.
I have played loads of his maps & keep going back for more.
the implimentation of this mechanism in his map is not obscure.
in my opinion for that map, it makes sense & makes the puzzle.

I'm going to try stormsend's map that you linked but I am wary.

I guess if you tell players to expect multiple outputs from a single input then it may be fine but this sort of mechanism would really confuse the average portal2 player since buttons don't ever change what they do between presses. Heck, often there is a big dotted line pointing at something.

"Look it opens this door silly!"

But for "advanced" maps, I could see it. Allows for more interesting puzzles, I would assume. However, until you know the rotation of what the button does (Going through every option once until you get back to the first one) then even for experienced players there is still a black box aspect to it. Button press goes in and some input comes out but heck if I know what happens next time...

for anyone who wants to understand your mechanism.
to be honest. I was curious to how it worked, myself.
the only way to find out, was to experiment in the editor.
with daloboy, also wanting to see the mechanism.
publishing this, seemed the best way to demonstrate it.
I substituted your panels with light bridges, to show cause & effect.
your non-connected buttons through me a bit.
so got rid of them, to make it clearer.
