I may not have every hero on here and I won't describe all they may be able do. These characters each have a huge move set with many many options on how to use it and in what way. This is just from my personal experience. I have used every character in the game, but some of them I have fought more than I have used. My goal is to explain some play styles I use and some I have seen and give those looking for a hero to call their own some options. I hope you enjoy this guide on which hero to use and I hope you may find a new favorite.
Beat um ups
This is my personal favorite type of game play. This style uses mix up combos to keep in the face of your opponent to control the flow of the combat. a "Beat um up" player loves to push the pressure and case devastating effects on their opponent.

Characters for this game play style (level of skill needed)

Warden (open to novice players): This hero has a timed bash that can put your opponent off balance in a fight. A practiced warden can keep an opponent on the defensive the entire bout. Forcing them to try to anticipate and react instead of going on the attack.

Raider (open to novice players): With their dash attack that has a blinding effect, a good Raider can dominate an unprepared opponent. Mix that with their 1,000 mile tackle and the pressure you may put on a player can become overwhelming. The best bet is to tackle them into a wall. They will have to dash or roll out just to keep form being victimized by the Raiders light heavy mix ups.

Gladiator (moderate players): This snoot booping specialist is a force to be reckoned with in a 1v1 scenario. Their punch and light attacks are the obvious weapons for a beginner to take advantage of, but the real pressure comes when you can implement a good ole toe stab. This hero was made to drain that stamina bar.

Conqueror (moderate players): This one is one of my most used. I deemed my play style with this hero as "aggressively defensive". This heroes flow of combat is easy to get into and can put your opponent of balance. With their shield bash a conqueror can either be an "easy to defies" opponent or a mess of unpredictable pain and suffering. If your opponent runs out of stamina it is easy to keep them there. If facing an assassin just light attack the day away and watch the kills roll in.

Jiang Jun (moderate players): Facing a good Jiang Jun can be a nightmare. Their options of stamina darning moves mixed with their odd pacing and unblock able strikes makes this guy a force straight out the old folks home. He has fair range and could nasally be your main in most any situation.

Valkyrie (open to novice): She can put you down and just keep you there. The Valkyrie has a few combos that are difficult to counter and will decimate the competition if your opponent cant get the timing right. She has a good combo chain that places your opponents on the ground and can shield bash. Her options are not limitless, but if used appropriately she can cause some serious damage. I would say that this character is a fun diversion form a main, and can offer some good options in group combat.

Lawbringer (advanced players): Ohhhh the LawDADDY. He is a bit slower than most on this list, but oh man can he pack a punch. He can stagger, bash, throw an opponent far, counter, blind, multiple unblockables, and mix his combos up. This character is one of the best in the game. He can be easily countered and has slow movement speed, but his options during a combat exchange are insane. I would recommend this to a more advanced player as his options can be difficult to take advantage of.

Centurion (moderate players): If you are new and see one of these guys just be careful and side dodge a lot. An armature Centurion player can be taken advantage of if side dodged, but a veteran has almost no holes in their game play. With his insane mix ups and combos a Centurion can easily take out an opponent and never be touched. This is one of my most favorite characters, and finding other good Centurion players and 1v1 them can be an awesome experience. This character equals the lawbringer in all ways, but has the benefit of being used by novice players. A new player can pick him up learn some combos and have a great time while wining a majority or the interactions.
ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK
This play style consists of nonstop attacking. There may be some pausing to regain stamina, but that inst always the case. A play style for the more aggressive. It is common to run into beginners who do this because they are unfamiliar with the pacing of the interactions, or those who just understand the basic goal of killing. With that said I have faced ATTACKERS who are veterans and can be insanely difficult to fight. I see this as a legitimate play strategy if adapted appropriately.

Characters that support this pay style (level of skill needed to use the hero for this play style):

Raider (novice): This character's ability to chain their heavy attacks even if blocked gives them an advantage over a stamina drained opponent. They may also switch between heavy and quick light attacks to change the pacing. The true danger in facing an ATTACKING raider is that if their heavy attacks land it takes a good amount of health. This along with their area sweeping unblock able that can be used at the end of chain attacks or just from a neutral position makes them a damage dealing danger.

Tiandi (moderate): This character's strength comes from their dodging ability. By adding an attack with a dodge (either heavy or light) you will be able to cause consistent damage while avoiding it in turn. When it comes to straight forward battles this character has a few options, but their main strength comes from their slippy slidy ways.

Orochi (moderate): This character can be a non-stop attacker if used as such. They may lack the power of some of the others on this list, but the variety of attacks this hero has more than makes up for that. This hero can avoid most any attack while counter attacking in the same breath. The attack they have when they step back and quick strike can be used as much as needed and will dodge almost any attack your opponent has committed to. With that said this character will mostly use light attacks and only use heavy ones in strategic situations.

Shaman (moderate): She bites...like all the time. If an opponent is poisoned she may pounce and bite them for health. She is comparable to the Berserker in some of her attacks, but has a pacing all her own. She is an assassin that can interchange heavy and light attacks with ease and effectiveness. Facing a Shaman can be difficult, but her common combos leave her open to parry opportunities.

Berserker (advanced): The whole reason for this play style being a legitimate choice. If you truly enjoy cutting into your competition then this hero may be the one for you. After mastering the cancel an advanced player can just nonstop smack down with this hero. That being said there is a large polarization in the game with the player who choose a Berserker. They are either quite easy to handle or a true battle to fight. There isn't much in-between with this character. If you choose to master this hero you may find it difficult at first, but when it clicks you will bathe in the salt of your enemies.

Sakura (novice): There isn't much to be said about this one. The play style is straight forward when considering this strategy. Just keep on heavy attacking and sometimes hold it down. This hero's ability to have any heavy strike be an unblock-able gives this play style a legitimate flare of danger.

Highlander (moderate): The only reason I put the skill as moderate is that when you get into his attack stance there is no blocking and if you are not proactive you will die. With his options of unblockables mixed with his disabling grabs this guy can be a nonstop attacking monster. If you don't mix up your attacks with some lights and cancels he is easily countered and is generally slow, but let 3 or more attacks land and you will have yourself a kill.

Aramusha (novice): He has some counter attack options, but his strength comes from the all out blender setting on high. Dodge strike and then continue striking until they fall down. He is best used against assassins due to their temporary guard.
Tank
The tank is a damage taking dealing pain to kill. This player waits for their time to strike and doesn't mind taking their time doing so. They may be slow but if you get hit your whole team feels it, and if you aren't smart on how you take them down they will power straight through you. If you are a tank you like your attacks to mean something and only trade blows if you are the one getting the good end of the deal.

Warlord (moderate): This hero can put out some serious damage, but lacks that consistent pressure that some others have. You may turtle behind his shield and strike when its your time to capitalize on your opponents mistakes. His ledging capabilities are legendary, and with his health and defense you will have all the time you need to set it up. His Strikes can end an encounter quite quickly as well.

Shugoki (novice): It is not hard to master this character, and when you do you will control the fear in your enemies keyboards. This is a good character for you or your friends to start with. You will win a good amount of your encounters just off of basic skills and strategies, but will find he has some other tools to take advantage of as well. This tank has some good combat flow control skill and will give most anyone a run for their money. If the Centurion is giving you trouble go with this guy.

Black prior (advanced): His combos are good and his mix ups are nothing to scoff at. You may tank with him due to his shield and striking capabilities, but he wont tank as well as some of the others here. His true tanking ability comes from his defense. Offensively he is solid, but his capabilities with his shield set him apart buy being able to counter attack and entire team at once, or strike and combo from a shield bash.

Sakura (novice): Just like the Shugoki this hero has an uninterruptible heavy that lands with a high damage output. They have a good amount of tools to take advantage of to disable the opponent, and have a solid amount of unblock-able strike options.
